Job Summary

Location: Southern California (Hybrid)
Design what moves people. Lead what shapes communities.
TYLin is seeking a Senior Track Designer to help shape the planning and design of major rail and transit projects across Southern California and throughout the United States. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished designer with deep technical expertise in trackwork design and a passion for delivering infrastructure that connects communities and transforms mobility.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Track Designer, you will take the lead on complex, high-profile track design projects—serving as both a technical authority and project manager. You’ll direct multidisciplinary teams of engineers and designers, oversee project delivery from concept through construction, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.
In this role, you’ll lead delivery production, QA/QC reviews, and coordinating with clients and agency stakeholders to deliver designs that meet technical, operational, and budgetary goals. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior designers, shaping TYLin’s technical excellence, and contributing to business development and pursuit efforts.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and manage track design for commuter rail, light rail, subway, and freight systems across multiple projects and geographies.

  • Oversee project delivery as Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager, including budgets, schedules, and client coordination.

  • Direct and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and CAD specialists to produce high-quality, coordinated design packages.

  • Lead QA/QC processes for all trackwork deliverables, maintaining TYLin’s standards of design excellence.

  • Perform and review alignment geometry, crossovers, turnouts, yards, and related civil components.

  • Collaborate with structural, civil, systems, and construction disciplines to deliver fully integrated designs.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships; support business development and proposal pursuits.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (California PE preferred, or ability to obtain).

  • Significant, demonstrated experience in rail and transit trackwork design.

  • Experience managing design teams would be a significant advantage.

  • Proven success leading major design packages from concept through construction.

  • In-depth knowledge of track geometry, special trackwork, rail operations, rail maintenance, and construction practices.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client relationship management skills.
