At Sangoma, we're looking for a Senior QA Engineer with strong hands-on experience testing complex software and telephony or real-time communications platforms. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, functionality, and quality of our cloud communications products, including UCaaS, CCaaS, VoIP, and related applications.
The ideal candidate combines strong manual testing and technical troubleshooting skills with experience investigating complex defects across application, network, and telephony layers. You'll take ownership of quality for assigned features, develop effective test strategies, validate complex call flows and integrations, and collaborate closely with Engineering, Product Management, DevOps, and Technical Support to deliver reliable software.
Experience with Asterisk, FreePBX, or an equivalent PBX or telephony platform is essential. Automation experience is beneficial, but the ability to independently test and troubleshoot complex communications scenarios is the priority.
Responsibilities- Own QA activities for assigned features and releases, including test strategy, risk assessment, test planning, regression coverage, defect investigation, and release readiness.
- Design and execute manual, functional, integration, system, regression, API, and end-to-end tests for complex communications platforms and related applications.
- Validate telephony functionality, including call flows, SIP signaling, dialplan behavior, SIP trunks, call routing, and relevant media-related scenarios.
- Independently investigate complex defects and intermittent call failures using application logs, SIP traces, packet captures, Linux command-line tools, and other appropriate diagnostic methods.
- Isolate root causes across application, network, database, and telephony components, working with Engineering to reproduce issues and validate fixes.
- Test integrations among PBX applications, backend services, databases, REST APIs, external services, and third-party telephony components.
- Validate negative scenarios, error handling, data integrity, service interactions, and failure recovery across interconnected systems.
- Develop and maintain regression strategies that prioritize high-risk functionality and identify opportunities for automated or continuous validation.
- Perform Linux-based application troubleshooting, service diagnostics, database validation, and basic network troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, DevOps, and Technical Support to investigate customer-reported issues and production defects.
- Participate in defect triage, root-cause analysis, release reviews, and other activities necessary to maintain product quality.
- Use Git and CI/CD or equivalent continuous-testing workflows to support effective test execution and release validation.
- Contribute to QA process improvements, testing documentation, test coverage, and quality metrics.
- Provide technical guidance to junior QA engineers and help improve testing practices across the team.
RequirementsRequired Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on software QA experience testing complex applications or platforms.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience testing VoIP, PBX, UCaaS, CCaaS, IVR, or an equivalent telephony or real-time communications platform.
- Experience testing telephony functionality, such as call flows, SIP signaling, call routing, SIP trunks, dialplans, or comparable platform-specific functionality.
- Experience independently investigating complex technical defects using logs, diagnostic tools, and other technical evidence.
- Practical experience troubleshooting Linux-based applications, services, or systems.
- Understanding of network fundamentals relevant to communications troubleshooting.
- Experience testing REST APIs, backend services, and integrations, including negative scenarios, error handling, and data validation.
- Experience developing test strategies, planning regression coverage, assessing quality risks, and supporting release decisions.
- Experience with defect tracking, defect triage, root-cause investigation, and collaboration with software developers.
- Experience using Git and working with CI/CD pipelines or equivalent software delivery and continuous-testing workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide technical guidance to other QA team members.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Asterisk, FreePBX, or other PBX and telephony platforms.
- Experience using Asterisk CLI, Wireshark, SIP traces, packet captures, or comparable telephony diagnostic tools.
- Experience troubleshooting SIP signaling, RTP/media flows, NAT, call routing, or interoperability issues.
- Experience with Python, Bash, or other scripting languages to support testing and troubleshooting.
- Experience with test automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or comparable tools.
- Experience with performance testing, distributed systems, cloud applications, and microservices.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
