Role Summary
Responsible for building and maintaining scalable Python backend services and RESTful APIs that enable data visualization and analytics via React and Plotly Dash frontends.
This engineer ensures that validated, transformed datasets are efficiently exposed through secure, optimized endpoints for both internal and external consumption.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain APIs using FastAPI or Django REST Framework.
- Implement endpoints for data retrieval and integration with BigQuery and other GCP services.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to define API schemas and optimize data exchange performance.
- Handle authentication, authorization, caching, and service-level performance tuning.
- Own backend testing, CI/CD pipelines, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate on deployment and DevOps workflows using Docker and GitHub Actions.
- Ensure reliability, observability, and scalability across backend services.
Technical Requirements
- 5–8 years of backend or fullstack experience.
- Strong Python skills (FastAPI, Django).
- API design and data modeling expertise.
- Understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT design patterns, and pipeline optimization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, particularly AWS and GCP.
- Experience integrating with BigQuery or SQL-based systems.
- Apply data validation with Pandera or equivalent schema tools.
- Familiarity with Plotly Dash, or willingness to reverse-engineer Dash workflows.
- Cloud experience: GCP (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage).
- Experience with containerized, CI/CD-driven environments.
- Knowledge of audit trail design.
Preferred Experience
- Migration of Plotly Dash dashboards to React frontends.
- Integration and support of backend services powering Dash components within the broader system.
- Proficiency with Git-based workflows and CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration concepts (e.g., Dagster, Airflow).
- Experience developing analytics-heavy or data-access platforms.
- Domain knowledge in climate analytics, ESG, or data governance.
