Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced professional engineer to join Gibraltar Mine as Senior Projects Engineer, Technical Services. This role provides technical leadership and project management for complex maintenance and site improvement projects, from scope development and engineering design through execution, commissioning, and closeout. The successful candidate will work across site departments and with external engineering firms, suppliers, and contractors to deliver safe, practical, and reliable engineering solutions, with safety as a core priority in every project. This position combines hands-on field engineering with responsibility for technical quality, project risk, budgets, schedules, and mentorship of developing engineers. It offers the opportunity to build a long-term career through diverse engineering challenges and continued professional development.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead complex engineering projects from scope definition and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout; coordinate engineering firms, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Lead the integration of safety and regulatory requirements into project planning, design, and execution, driving best safety practices throughout the project lifecycle, redirecting the safety culture as needed to meet Gibraltar’s expectations, and ensuring compliance with applicable Ministry of Mines and WorkSafeBC standards.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and execution plans; monitor progress, manage changes, and communicate risks and corrective actions to stakeholders.
  • Partner with site departments to assess safety concerns, evaluate engineering alternatives, and prioritize practical solutions based on risk and operational requirements.
  • Provide senior technical guidance to operations and maintenance on mobile and fixed asset equipment, including troubleshooting, equipment modifications, and reliability improvements.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for mechanical engineers across projects on fixed asset and mobile equipment reliability; support sound engineering decisions and consistent technical practices, and help prioritize engineering work to improve site safety, equipment reliability, and project delivery.
  • Lead technical reviews of internally and externally developed drawings, specifications, and engineering deliverables for safety, constructability, maintainability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of engineering documentation, including SOLIDWORKS drawings, design records, and as-built information, with appropriate document control.
  • Provide senior field engineering support for maintenance and construction projects, resolve technical issues, support commissioning and handover to operations.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to junior and intermediate members of Technical Services, including review of engineering work within the scope of professional competence.
Education & Experience
  • A degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or another related engineering discipline.
  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible mechanical engineering and project management experience in an industrial setting, including leadership of complex projects and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
Skills & Competencies
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), in good standing.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound engineering judgment, lead technical reviews, manage project risk, and champion safe work practices and a strong safety culture. Knowledge and experience in the following areas would be considered assets:
    • Steel fabrication techniques and methods, including constructability and quality considerations.
    • Computer-assisted design and drawing review using SOLIDWORKS.
    • Structural engineering principles and coordination with discipline specialists.
    • Project scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, change control, and contractor coordination.
    • Field engineering reviews, construction support, and commissioning in a complex industrial setting.
    • Base metals mineral processing and associated milling and mining equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for project planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, and mentoring skills, with the ability to explain technical recommendations and influence decisions across departments.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Canadian driver’s license.
The Community
  • Williams Lake has a population of approximately 12,000 but services nearly 25,000 as it is a central hub for many outlying smaller communities
  • Adult recreational leagues for many popular sports including hockey, soccer, and softball
  • A fantastic trail network for mountain biking, walking, and hiking
  • Dozens of nearby lakes for fishing, paddling, and camping opportunities
