The Senior Project Manager plays a critical role in planning, leading and delivering complex, cross-functional projects that support the organization’s strategic priorities and business objectives. Reporting to the Senior Manager, PMO, the Senior Project Manager is accountable for project delivery from initiation through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, dependencies, stakeholder engagement and outcomes. 

The Senior Project Manager provides leadership and structure across project teams, facilitates effective decision-making, and ensures projects are delivered with a clear focus on business value, quality and sustainable outcomes. 

Key Responsibilities

    Project Planning & Delivery 

    • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, milestones, resources and success measures. 

    • Lead projects from initiation through implementation and formal closure, ensuring deliverables and outcomes are achieved. 

    • Manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining focus on key milestones and business objectives. 

    Strategic Alignment & Business Outcomes 

    • Ensure projects are aligned with organizational strategy, priorities and business objectives. 

    • Establish clear measures of project success and monitor progress toward intended business outcomes and benefits. 

    • Provide recommendations to support project prioritization, sequencing and resource decisions where appropriate. 

    Project Governance & Reporting

    • Establish and maintain appropriate project governance, decision-making processes, escalationand decisions required. 

    • Escalate significant issues and risks in a timely manner and provide recommendations for resolution. 

    Stakeholder & Team Leadership 

    • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, stakeholders and cross-functional project teams. 

    • Facilitate effective collaboration and decision-making across teams and stakeholders with differing priorities. 

    • Provide leadership, direction and support to teams, influencing outcomes without direct authority. 

    • Works closely with product leaders on delivery. 

    Risk, Issue & Dependency Management 

    • Identify, assess and proactively manage project risks and issues, developing appropriate mitigation and contingency strategies. 

    • Identify and manage dependencies across projects, teams and organizational initiatives. 

    • Monitor changes to project scope, timelines, resources and requirements and assess their impact on project outcomes. 

    Budget & Resource Management 

    • Develop and manage project budgets, monitor expenditures and ensure adherence to approved financial parameters. 

    • Identify resource and capacity requirements and proactively address constraints or competing demands. 

    • Monitor project performance against approved scope, schedule, budget and resources. 

    Vendor Management 

    • Manage external vendors and partners where applicable, including deliverables, timelines, performance, contracts and issue resolution. 

    • Provide interim support for routine procurement activities, including gathering business requirements, obtaining and comparing vendor quotes, coordinating purchase requests and approvals, and tracking renewals to support business continuity. 

    • Collaborate with Finance and relevant stakeholders to ensure purchasing activities follow established policies, remain within approved budgets and maintain appropriate documentation, supporting a smooth handover to a dedicated procurement specialist. 

    Quality & Change Management 

    • Ensure project deliverables meet established quality standards, requirements and stakeholder expectations. 

    • Lead project change management activities, supporting effective adoption and transition to new processes, systems or ways of working. 

    • Assess and communicate the organizational impact of significant project changes. 

    Project Documentation & Continuous Improvement 

    • Maintain accurate and timely project documentation, including project plans, status reports, risk and issue logs, meeting records, decisions and other project artifacts. 

    • Lead project close-out activities, including evaluation of outcomes, lessons learned and transition to business-as-usual operations. 

    • Identify opportunities to improve project management practices, tools and processes and contribute to PMO standards and best practices. 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive project management experience, with demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional projects from initiation through completion.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, governance and best practices.
  • Ability to understand organizational priorities, connect project activities to business objectives and maintain focus on outcomes and value.
  • Procurement Familiarity: Practical experience supporting routine purchasing or procurement activities, including comparing quotes, coordinating approvals and vendor renewals, and assessing value for money. Sound commercial judgment and the ability to provide interim procurement support alongside project delivery responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage vendors, engage senior leaders and align cross-functional stakeholders with differing priorities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify risks, navigate complexity and develop practical solutions.
  • Ability to manage complex projects independently, from planning through execution, with strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • A highly motivated self-starter who proactively addresses challenges, works effectively in complex and ambiguous situations, and adapts project plans and priorities as business needs evolve.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools. Experience with Smartsheet is considered an asset.
  • PMP or other recognized project management certification is considered an asset.
