The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the team based in Huntsville, AL.

The selected candidate will support the Space Launch System (SLS) program, a critical heavy-lift launch vehicle that powers crew and cargo missions to the Moon and beyond, enabling groundbreaking exploration, science, and national security objectives. As the most powerful rocket ever built, SLS delivers larger payloads farther and faster within our solar system than ever before. Boeing's Space Launch System team is responsible for the design, development, testing, and production of the core stage and avionics.
As a member of the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team, you will lead and manage engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring alignment with schedule, budget, and quality requirements. Success in this role depends on effective coordination and collaboration with Boeing teammates and NASA customers to develop and execute detailed project plans encompassing scope, milestones, resource allocation, and risk management.
This position requires strong communication and relationship-building skills, comfort working across diverse cultures, and a passion for space exploration. As a systems engineer, you will apply standardized products, processes, and tools across subsystems to achieve program objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including scope, milestones, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams, resolving complex technical issues.
  • Interface with customers and stakeholders to define project requirements and provide regular status updates.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and company standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct design reviews, analyze engineering data, and approve technical documentation.
  • Manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize project management tools and software to track progress and generate reports.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a NASA Facility Clearance.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in project management or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, project management methodologies, and product development processes.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project or similar) and engineering software.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with risk management, cost control, and schedule management.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality systems.
  • Willing to travel domestically as needed (~10%)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Proficiency with TEAMS, SharePoint, PowerBI, and MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with engineering change integration starting from change initiation, gathering and assessing impact statements, through presentation to Boeing SLS Change Boards, delivery to NASA customers and tracking timely response receipt.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range for Senior: $129,900.00 - $174,800.00
