Location: Hybrid Arrangement - Los Angeles / Southern California Region
Salary Range: $140,000 - $175,000
Position Summary:
As a member of the growing Southern California (Irvine-based) team, the Senior Project Architect will oversee the development of the design and definition of large, complex construction projects and lead the production of documentation and project deliverables. The Senior Project Architect has a project-focused view, and in partnership with the Design Principal and Project Manager, is the co-leader of the project. They will collaboratively envision, plan, evaluate, and maintain oversight over project team production required to successfully deliver the project and meet the client’s goals and objectives. They will assist in the management of all project stakeholders and the oversight of project staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Oversees project development and the project team in all phases of work to achieve design and technical success.
  • Fosters a collaborative environment by taking an active role in leadership with the internal and external teams. Maintain positive and trusted client, consultant, architect and contractor relationships.
  • Provides significant input on the design direction and innovation(s) and furthers the development of project definition and design projects that are consistent with the work and goals of the firm and the client.
  • Establishes, communicates, and maintains standards of quality for documentation and other work products for the full internal and external team. Supports leadership in the implementation of internal quality management systems for assigned projects.
  • Demonstrates an advanced understanding of building materials, systems, specifications, codes, details and construction techniques. Is able to enrich design concepts through technical strategies and effectively uses appropriate tools to design and document at all project phases.
  • Oversees the coordination of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure that deliverables are coordinated, integrated, and support the performance goals of the project.
  • Develops project presentations and necessary materials to convey ideas and project solutions.
  • Oversees the implementation of design software programs and standards for the project and streamlines workflows for consistency and efficiency
  • Mentors and develops staff in their technical knowledge and understanding of buildings, systems, and constructability.
  • Actively contributes to the technical excellence of projects office-wide.
  • Actively leads multiple projects and teams.
  • Creates and drives new ways of working through contributing to the development of services, standards and procedures for the firm.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with the client and its stakeholders for continuous and effective communication and to obtain a common understanding of project status, progress, and expectations.
  • Guide the team to meet the client’s vision and ensure positive outcomes for our clients and their construction projects.
  • Mentors project personnel for assigned projects.
  • Participates in and leads project meetings as a primary day-to-day representative of the MOCA project team.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of project staff ensuring adherence to company policy/procedures. Oversee staff development, performance management, and team motivation initiatives of direct reports.
  • Review and monitor the contract to ensure MSI is fulfilling contract requirements.
  • Provide Design Management oversight including working with the project design team to finalize and manage the design process. Attend all design meetings and maintain meeting minutes to ensure contract accountability.  
  • Provide Construction Management oversight including review and monitoring of project budgets and project schedules, review of RFI’s and submittals, review of pay applications and change orders, observation and monitoring of construction activities, and evaluation of field problems and facilitation of resolutions.
  • Attend all field walks and OAC (Owner, Architect and Contractor) meetings as the primary representative of the Owner.
  • Monitor and facilitate project commissioning and closeout activities
  • Periodic travel, upwards of 25%, to project sites, client offices, and MSI offices to meet with clients and team members.
Required Qualifications:
  • NAAB accredited Bachelor’s degree in architecture and a minimum of ten (10) years as a practicing architect including the management of a team involved in planning, design, and construction.   
  • Must be a Registered Architect, licensed in State of practice.
  • Other industry accreditations or certifications such as LEED AP or DBIA desired.. 
  • Significant experience in all phases of work required.
