OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks a product manager to join its Generative AI Tech Services team. This team develops and operates a wide-ranging suite of generative-AI products and infrastructure, serving as a centralized platform to drive innovation and efficiency across the firm. This role owns the firm's user-facing generative-AI products and is centered on deeply understanding users and connecting their asks to product changes (including technical implementation), offering a broad view of the firm's generative-AI practice and the opportunity to shape how the firm adopts these tools.
WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
- Own the product direction and delivery for the firm's flagship user-facing AI agent and chat experiences, expanding to other end-user generative-AI products over time.
- Spend time understanding both technical and non-technical users and identifying new ways AI products can support or transform their workflows.
- Partner with the firm's Learning & Development and generative-AI business teams to increase adoption, experimentation, and AI skill development across the firm.
- Systematically prioritize product work across the Generative AI Tech Services team and in collaboration with key infrastructure teams and partners.
- Work with senior engineering counterparts to ensure stable and performant products.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Five to ten years of product-management experience, ideally building AI/ML or generative-AI products, developer tools, or enterprise software.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher; a degree in computer science or a related technical discipline is preferred but not required.
- A technologist mindset and sufficient technical depth to understand the product and ecosystem, and read and understand code and how components fit together; some coding experience is beneficial.
- An evangelist mindset, and the ability to lead by example to encourage learning and adoption of AI solutions across the firm.
- Keen prioritization and business cost/benefit analysis skills; a data-driven approach to evaluating product success, with the flexibility to change direction as the industry continues to evolve.
- Excellent user-interviewing skills, with a deep interest in partnering closely with users to understand problems and transform workflows.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $230,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.

The D. E. Shaw Group Insights
What We Do
The D. E. Shaw group is trusted by investors across the world to manage their assets by seeking the optimal balance of risk and reward. While we’re known as a pioneer in quantitative investing, we also have considerable expertise in areas that involve fundamental analysis or portfolio manager discretion. We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative tools to uncover independent, hard-to-find sources of return across global public and private markets. Founded in 1988 over a small bookstore in downtown New York City, the D. E. Shaw group began with six employees and $28 million in capital and quickly became a pioneer in computational finance. In the early days of exposed pipes and extension cords, tripping on a cable could take out our whole trading system. Today, the firm has more than 2,500 people around the globe and an institutional-grade (and trip-proof) infrastructure, but we still value creativity, entrepreneurship, and the spirit of discovery. If you’re an intellectually adventurous person who loves to collaborate on challenging and rewarding projects, we encourage you to apply.
