As a Sr. Product Engineer you will serve as the technical and strategic lead for new product initiatives. Your goal is to identify "what to build" (through market insight and ideation) and "how to build it" (through engineering and prototyping).
This role is considered a HYBRID position with periodic onsite work at our headquarters in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
What will you do?
Technical Design & Engineering
Detailed CAD Development: Create robust 3D models and 2D technical drawings (SolidWorks) incorporating Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Prototyping: Build, assemble, and iterate on functional prototypes using rapid fabrication methods.
Validation & Development
Technical Feasibility: Conduct design analysis (FEA) to prove the design is sound before cutting steel for molds.
Design for Manufacturing: Conduct design reviews to ensure low cost, high quality and ease of manufacturing for new designs.
Verification Testing: Lead Engineering Qualification Testing to ensure the product survives real-world stress
Innovation
Concept Generation: Identify market gaps and translate user needs into technical Product Specification Documents (PSDs).
Commercial Viability: Develop initial Business Cases, including high-level Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) estimates and Return on Investment (ROI) modeling.
Competitive Analysis: Benchmark competitor products from a technical standpoint to ensure our designs are superior.
Product Care Activities
Advanced Deviation Requests: Evaluation of products for quality related functionality.
Supply Chain Project: supplier moves, material changes, cost-out initiatives.
Engineering Change Orders: Process design changes, update drawings, update specifications and update attribute data.
What will you need?
Requires a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
A minimum of 8 plus years’ experience or equivalent
Ability to effectively lead development efforts
Solidworks and High Volume machining experience strongly preferred
