About us

At Voltus, our mission is to be the Distributed Energy Platform that fulfills the promise of the energy transition. The Voltus platform connects any distributed energy resource (DER) to any energy market across the US and Canada, providing flexibility, reliability, and resilience to the grid while generating revenue for our customers. By partnering with industry leaders and the DER ecosystem, we are building the decarbonized, distributed, decentralized, and digitized energy system of the future.

Voltus is a fully distributed company and this job is remote. You have the flexibility to work from anywhere, but you must overlap with the Mountain Time zone for at least 4 hours of the workday (9am-5pm).

Job description

At Voltus you will work on customer-facing products that make our customers’ lives easier while they get paid for using less energy. You will be responsible for contributing to the overall design process—from research, to concept development, and delivery of clear and compelling interfaces and services that get the job done. You will work within cross-functional teams of product managers and engineers to deliver great experiences to our users.

You will help the team build interfaces and services that allow humans to interact with the Voltus platform. Your work will help customers better understand how they use energy, how much they spend on energy, how they can reduce their energy use, and how much they’ve earned from offering their operational flexibility and behind-the-meter assets to energy markets.

You are someone who can help define our design strategy and think big about our product suite, but still sweats the nitty-gritty details of each feature. You are eager to experiment with solutions, and know how to find a meaningful balance between optimizing for speed and quality. You have professional experience designing useful tools that bring clarity to complex information and data sets. You enjoy bringing structure to challenging webs of concepts and systems. You are excited to help us refine our existing products, mature our budding design system, and grow design culture at Voltus.

You are bright, gritty, and good, and have a genuine passion for delivering a cleaner energy future.

  • Get involved in user research and usability testing.
  • Actively contribute to our design system, help determine whether components are single-use or multi-use, and provide recommendations regarding new component requests.

What's important to us

  • 5+ years of experience in product design.
  • Self-initiated and curious, someone who is always looking for ways to improve our products and design workflows.
  • Awareness, empathy, intentionality.
  • Experience creating and shipping new products as well as refining existing products.

At Voltus, we value people from all walks of life and understand that not everyone will meet all qualifications on day one. That's okay—your passion and dedication are what matter most.
