We're seeking a mid-level designer to join our Product Design team who is passionate about creating tools for people that are human-empowering, obvious in use, relevant to users' needs, and enjoyable to interact with. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Product Design, you'll become a vital part of a vibrant team that champions an inclusive and supportive environment. Design at DigitalOcean is not just wireframing around complex challenges; we're spearheading the development of simple, powerful tools across our entire ecosystem.

In this role, you will:

  • Spearhead Innovation: Lead the design of intuitive and cohesive user experiences that are not only engaging but also straightforward and secure. We don’t want to just emulate existing workflows and experiences but improve on them. Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers to create impactful interactions that resonate deeply and exceed user expectations.
  • Empower Users: Design with a focus on human-centered principles, ensuring all decisions and designs enhance user capabilities and respect their needs. Your efforts will continually refine our products, making them more relevant and enjoyable, thereby driving satisfaction and aligning seamlessly with our strategic goals.
  • Drive DO Simple: Transforms complexity into clarity, ensuring every interaction is as straightforward as a clear path along the shore. Shed the unnecessary and optimize the essential—make even the most complex processes intuitive and user-friendly. Offer seamless interactions at every touchpoint, enabling users to execute their tasks with unmatched ease and precision.
  • Ensure Relevance: Create experiences that are contextually relevant for our DO users at varying levels of technical proficiency. You are responsible for designing experiences that directly respond to the specific and evolving needs of today's developers and their broader teams. Your contributions will be crucial in making our solutions not go beyond technical excellence into a product that speaks directly to what outcomes our users are looking for.
  • Foster Enjoyment: In our dynamic tech environment, the ability to create engaging and enjoyable experiences is essential. You will navigate between projects with a focus on making development not just easier, but truly delightful, ensuring your contributions encourage continuous innovation and positivity across the team.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Deliver Impactful Projects: Lead and contribute to multiple projects that drive significant value for both customers and the business.
  • Design Holistic User Flows: Conceptualize and design complete user flows from start to finish, ensuring solutions address both current needs and future scenarios.
  • Act as a Core Team Member: Be a critical member of the product team triad alongside Product Managers and Engineers, influencing product strategy and execution.
  • Communicate Effectively: Clearly articulate and exhibit your design perspectives and solutions to complex problems.
  • Enhance System Integration: Leverage an understanding of system-wide dependencies and technical specifics to improve design contributions and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate on Technical Solutions: Work with engineering to troubleshoot and resolve front-end issues, enhancing product quality and user experience.
  • Champion Team Collaboration: Work closely with designers and product teams across the DigitalOcean portfolio to unify and enhance the customer experience. Foster a team-oriented environment where DO Love—our commitment to respect and trust—is exemplified in every interaction.
  • Monitor and Document Progress: Keep track of team progress, document challenges and scope changes, and share proactive solutions to enhance project outcomes.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Initiatives: Be sought after for contributions to significant cross-functional projects, collaborating with teams across the company to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Engage in Company-Wide Initiatives: Actively participate in company-wide events like Shark-A-Hack, where you can collaborate with teams outside of design, showcase your skills, and contribute to innovative projects that may be outside your typical scope of work.
  • Drive KPI Improvements: Articulate hypotheses on how design can impact key performance indicators and solve product challenges.
  • Advance Design Practices: Recommend and implement best practices in design, and introduce industry-leading tools and methods to enhance the design process.
  • Foster Cross-Functional Relationships: Maintain strong working relationships across functions, ensuring seamless collaboration and integration of design within the company.
  • Contribute to Walrus: Collaborate with Walrus designers and engineers to introduce new elements and share innovations in our design library, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • We reward our employees. The base salary range for this position is between $120,000-$150,000 based on relevant years of experience and skills. The salary range for this role is specific to candidates located within the U.S. and will vary for candidates outside the U.S.. Employees may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees including grants of equity upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
