About the Role
Publication speed is an important decision factor within the article submission process – it is one of a few primary factors that authors look at when deciding to submit. To improve our publication speeds, in other words to achieve a significant reduction in our turnaround times (TATs), we are looking for a Senior Process Intelligence Analyst. The Senior Process Intelligence Analyst plays a hands-on role in realizing an optimal flow of our articles along our publishing pipeline of 3k+ journals. Better TATs offer enhanced experience to our authors and contribute to Springer Nature’s overall business goals.
This role will be instrumental in reducing article TATs, enhancing author experience, and supporting the company’s broader business objectives. Senior Process Intelligence Analyst uses tools and techniques to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for optimization within an organization’s workflow. This role combines elements of business intelligence, process mining, and data analysis to drive informed decision-making and process automation.
This role will be in our Berlin or Dordrecht offices on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
- Analyze publishing workflows using data from Looker, Google Big Query, and other BI tools
- Identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks, and recommend actionable improvements ·
- Recommend and implement new KPIs, data definitions, and reporting frameworks to track publishing speed, quality and author/reviewer/editor experience
- Create process maps and visualizations to support change initiatives
- Lead strategic cross-functional projects to optimize publication pipelines
- Champion data-informed change and ensure adoption of analytics frameworks
- Manage stakeholder alignment across Editorial, Production, Technology and Operation
- Collaborate with Product and Tech teams to explore automation and AI-driven solutions
- Propose and implement workflow enhancements to reduce manual efforts and errors
- Continuously assess performance impact of implemented changes and refine as needed
- Present complex data insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Liaise with Editorial, Publishing Performance, Operations and Technology teams to align priorities
- Ensure reporting frameworks are transparent, scalable and actionable
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of direct experience in process intelligence, BI, program/project management or performance optimization
- Proved track record of delivering improvements in publishing, consulting, tech, or related fields
- Hands-on experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing stakeholders
- Familiarity with editorial and production workflows in publishing or content-driven environment
- Proficient in analyzing publishing performance metrics, identify patterns and draw meaningful conclusions to drive strategic improvements
- Expertise in tools such as Looker, Google BigQuery, Tableau, or PowerBI to extract, transform and visualize data
- Creating visual representations of workflows to understand how processes are executed and identify areas of improvement
- Pinpoint areas where processes are slow, broken or unnecessarily complex
- Knowledge of business process management (BPM) and improvement frameworks
- Experience in Agile, Lean, Six Sigma methodologies (preferred)
- Strong project leadership and strategic planning skills
- Tracking the performance and value of processes after changes are implemented and making further adjustments if needed
- Skilled in communicating complex data insights to technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfortable presenting insights, dashboards and recommendation to senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Data Analytics, Data Science, Strategic Management, Project Management, or a related field
- PhD or advanced degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or other data-intensive fields is highly valuable, but not required
- Certifications in PMP, Agile, or Lean Sigma are a plus
