The Role
Design and develop power electronics converters for residential clean-energy products, owning hardware from specification through prototyping, validation, certification, and high-volume manufacturing. Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and firmware teams, support UL/CE and EMC certification, and develop reliable AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC systems. The role requires expertise in semiconductor selection, gate drives, PCB layout, thermal design, magnetics, capacitors, and laboratory instrumentation, with photovoltaic inverter and bidirectional EV charger experience preferred.
Summary Generated by Built In

dcbel Inc. (www.dcbel.energy) designs and sells residential products to make clean, efficient, and sustainable energy accessible to all — because everyone in the world deserves energy without compromise.

dcbel is at the leading edge of the residential energy revolution. Its products enable decentralized energy consumption and production through its vertically integrated suite of energy hardware and software products, and their supporting infrastructure.

Our flagship product, dcbel Ara, is a Home Energy Station that gives everyone ownership over their energy supply by using solar power to charge their EV and power their home, unlocking their EV’s battery for blackout protection, backup power (V2H) and grid services (V2G), and optimizing the energy flow between their solar panels, EVs, stationary battery and the grid.

The opportunity

We are searching for a self-motivated Senior Power Electronics Engineer with a proven track record to design and develop power electronics for dcbel’s suite of products.

Main responsibilities

  • Design and build hardware of power electronics converters for use in dcbel products.
  • End to end ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability validation and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and firmware engineering teams to design, validate and manufacture power converters.
  • Actively participate in the certification process by supporting the testing and providing solutions when needed.

Key requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant hands-on hardware experience in power converter design (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent; Masters or PhD preferred.
  • Experience with high bandiwth power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s), gate drive and protection circuit design.
  • Experience with UL and/or CE electrical safety requirements and certification, and EMC requirements relevant to the design of power converters.
  • Experience with design of analog/digital circuits and micro-processors.
  • Experience in design and supervision of PCB layout for minimal stray inductance and capacitance, placement strategies for better manufacturability, power/signal plane definition and EMC optimization.
  • Excellent understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
  • Excellent understanding of thermal design.
  • Excellent understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (Electrolytic, film and Ceramic) used for power conversion.
  • Familiar Altium Designer.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation: Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators.

Bonus skills

  • Experience designing grid tied photovoltaic inverters according to UL 1741SA/SB an asset.
  • Experience designing bi-directional DC Electric Vehicle chargers according to UL 9741 and UL 2231 an asset.

Profile

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and strong EQ.
  • Autonomous, have ease in learning, good teammate, communication and problem-solving skills.

What's in it for you:

  • Lead the clean-energy transition by getting to work on category-defining products that give people more choices to live sustainably.
  • Be part of a company that is backed by numerous globally respected investors and has world-changing patents in an industry changing for the first time in history.
  • Grow your professional experience amongst blue chip partners and a close-knit team of committed and experienced energy experts who deeply care about the work they do.
  • Full benefits package including Health insurance, Health virtual care, employee stock options plan (ESOP) and flexible hours. Parking available or with our employer commute program a short walking distance from Metro Namur.

Skills Required
