Senior Power BI Developer
Hybrid - Newark, DE
What you’ll be working on:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, visually compelling Power BI dashboards for high-impact KPIs (e.g., outage response, load forecasting, grid reliability, revenue protection).
- Establish visualization standards and mentor analysts on UI/UX best practices.
- Architect enterprise-grade semantic models using Power BI, Power Query, and DAX.
- Integrate and transform data from multiple complex sources including SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake, data lakes, and external utility systems.
- Ensure data models are optimized for performance, scalability, and governance.
- Develop advanced DAX measures, time-intelligence calculations, and custom logic to support deep operational and financial analytics.
- Provide thought leadership on advanced analytical capabilities, forecasting methodologies, and performance optimization.
- Partner with operational leaders, IT, and regulatory teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Lead BI planning sessions, solution reviews, and user-enablement workshops.
- Provide training, coaching, and guidance to BI analysts and end users.
- Implement and maintain row-level security (RLS), workspace governance, and data lineage documentation.
- Drive adoption of Power BI Service / Fabric governance standards, including capacity management and refresh strategy.
- Ensure all BI solutions adhere to security, compliance, and data-quality standards.
- Diagnose and optimize slow-running reports, storage models, and refresh pipelines.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for BI troubleshooting and best-practice guidance.
- Stay current with emerging Power BI and Microsoft Fabric capabilities and introduce enhancements to the BI ecosystem.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
- 5–7+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related role, preferably within the utility or energy industry.
- Expert-level proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Microsoft Fabric, DAX, M Query, and SQL.
- Strong understanding of enterprise BI architecture, semantic models, and scalable dataset design.
- Experience managing Power BI Premium, Fabric, or capacity-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data warehouse design, star and snowflake schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Experience working with relational and cloud-based data platforms such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake, Synapse, and Data Lake Storage.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or other data engineering tools (preferred).
- Knowledge of utility-sector systems such as AMI, CIS, GIS, outage management, or asset management platforms (preferred).
- Experience mentoring or leading BI analysts (preferred).
- Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst or Azure/Fabric certifications (preferred).
