Senior Platform Engineer

PublicSquare is a payments ecosystem that serves customers and businesses that value life, family, and freedom. Our Financial Technology segment includes Credova, a consumer financing and payments company.

As a Senior Platform Engineer at PublicSquare you will be part of a team that builds and supports critical infrastructure, security, and SRE capabilities for the entire organization. You will work closely with engineering, security, and IT teams to solve new problems, optimize existing solutions, and constantly improve the availability, security, and maintainability of our technology platform. We are looking for someone with a solid engineering background who has transitioned to focus on infrastructure, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment.

You will work with GCP (Cloud Run,CloudSQL, Memorystore (Redis), BigQuery, KMS, GCS), GitHub, GitHub Actions, On-Call Services (e.g.; OpsGenie, Incident.io), Terraform, Docker, Postgres, Cloudflare, Auth0, OTEL, and other technologies.

This role demands technical expertise, strong ownership mentality, and excellent communication skills. It requires someone who is team-oriented, technology savvy, and driven to produce quality products. You will set and drive engineering standards, own and continuously improve processes, and work collaboratively with fellow engineers, project owners, and engineering leaders. Our ideal candidate leverages their expertise while actively expanding their knowledge, and loves the idea of helping both develop technology and the business.

This is a full-time W2 position.

Role Summary/Major tenets of the role:

• Deliver timely, high-quality infrastructure solutions using IaC and automation
• Own execution of the development roadmap and operational excellence, focusing on cost optimization, scalability, system reliability, observability, and incident response
• Serve as a subject matter expert on infrastructure and architecture for the organization
• Enable developer productivity through self-service tooling and streamlined infrastructure workflows
• Clearly articulate technical decisions and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Selected Highlights/Responsibilities

• Contribute infrastructure expertise and technical research to support leadership in setting technical direction and product strategy
• Partner with the Product team to help execute differentiating capabilities
• Work in a consultative fashion with other teams as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness
• Promote and uphold development best practices and infrastructure standards
• Serve as escalation point in tier 2/3 production support on-call rotation
• Build and advocate for resilient, self-healing infrastructure that minimizes operational burden and on-call incidents
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, frameworks, and automation patterns
• Collaborate effectively in a high-performing team using agile principles

Requirements

• At least 8 Years experience in at least 2 of the following roles
• Software Engineer
• SRE
• DevOps 
• Platform Engineer
• Experience using GCP, AWS, or Azure, including automation experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi
• Experience designing, building, monitoring, and supporting critical infrastructure for applications at scale
• Proficiency in Bash; Go experience preferred but expect to become fluent as our primary infrastructure automation language
• Working knowledge of at least one of our application languages (Kotlin, NextJS/TypeScript, .NET)—enough to add instrumentation, integrate monitoring, and collaborate effectively with product engineers
• Experience identifying cost inefficiencies in cloud infrastructure and implementing optimizations through resource right-sizing, autoscaling, and architectural improvements
• Honest and fair with both their team members as well as their colleagues
• Proactively identify infrastructure risks and opportunities, and communicate technical decisions clearly through documentation, proposals, and cross-team collaboration
• Evaluate emerging technologies through technical research and present findings with clear decision criteria, tradeoffs, and actionable recommendations

Nice-to-have

• Degree in computer science or closely related field
• Experience working within compliance frameworks (PCI, SOC2) and applying security best practices under regulatory constraints

A Day in the Life…

• Writing Terraform and reviewing infrastructure PRs to enable safe, rapid iteration
• Building automation services (Go) for certificate management, deployments, and operational efficiency
• Partnering with developers on infrastructure design, access provisioning, and capacity planning
• Developing observability: building dashboards, implementing OTEL instrumentation in applications (Kotlin, NextJS, .NET), integrating services, and configuring/tuning alerts
• On-call duties including incident response and post-mortem analysis
• Cross-functional collaboration with PMs and developers on infrastructure roadmap
