The Senior Optical Transceiver Engineer is a key technical role within Nokia’s optics organization, responsible for evaluating, validating, and introducing advanced pluggable optical transceivers into the product portfolio across Datacom and Telecom domains (from 100G up to 1.6T).
The role combines deep expertise in optical modules and enabling technologies with cross-functional collaboration across PLM, Procurement, suppliers, and validation teams. The engineer contributes to technology scouting, defines application requirements and procurement specifications, and supports supplier selection activities.
A strong focus is placed on optical transceiver validation, including definition of test strategies, coordination of remote validation activities, and hands-on lab execution, leveraging automated test environments.
The position requires solid knowledge of transceiver form factors, MSA specifications, and industry standards (ITU-T, IEEE, OIF), along with project management responsibilities such as planning, coordination, and reporting.
The engineer operates in an international, virtual team, requiring strong communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities
- Perform technology scouting on new and emerging optical and microelectronics technologies
- Evaluate and assess enabling technologies for next-generation optical transceivers
- Define application-specific requirements tailored to Nokia needs, working closely with PLM and suppliers
- Define and maintain procurement technical specifications
- Review RFQ feedback and perform vendor technical evaluations and ranking in alignment with Procurement
- Coordinate remote validation activities, including test list definition, planning, execution, and results review
- Execute optical transceiver validation activities in laboratory environments
- Provide project and activity management, including planning, coordination, and regular status reporting
Qualifications

- Solid experience with pluggable optical transceivers for Datacom and Telecom applications (access and transport), with focus on:
100G, 200G, 400G, 800G, and 1.6T - Deep knowledge of:
- Optical transceiver form factors and relevant MSA specifications
- Enabling optics and microelectronics technologies, including optical propagation
- Industry standards: MSA, ITU-T, IEEE, OIF for optical interfaces
- Proven experience in optical transceiver validation and laboratory testing
- Experience in test automation of validation setups
- Preferred programming languages:
- Python
- LabVIEW
- Experience in technical discussions, assessments, and negotiations with optical module suppliers
- Strong project and program management capabilities
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Optical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field
