POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Senior Operations Executive provides strategic and operational leadership for an assigned portfolio of YMCA branches while supervising, coaching, and developing Executive Directors to achieve strong organizational, operational, financial, staff, membership, program, and community outcomes.

The position also serves as the association lead for Staff Development & Leadership, advancing strategies for staff learning, leadership development, onboarding, succession planning, and emerging leader development. The Senior Operations Executive promotes operational excellence, accountability, collaboration, and consistency while modeling the YMCA mission, values, and leadership expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide strategic and operational leadership for assigned YMCA branches, coaching and holding Executive Directors accountable for performance, results, and key operational measures.
  2. Ensure effective, safe, and consistent branch operations while supporting community engagement, philanthropy, volunteer leadership, and collaboration across branches and association teams.
  3. Coordinate and promote association-wide training and professional development in partnership with Human Resources, Great Plains Learning Center, Y-USA, and other resources.
  4. Facilitate learning opportunities, leadership forums, and peer-learning experiences aligned with staff and organizational needs.
  5. Champion continuous learning, leadership growth, accountability, and consistent leadership practices across the association.
  6. Coach and support Executive Directors and operational leaders through onboarding, mentoring, team development, succession planning, and high-potential leader development.
  7. Contribute to association-wide priorities and initiatives while fostering strong collaboration across Operations and association support teams.
  8. Model the YMCA’s mission, values, and commitment to strengthening community in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and partners.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, business, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; three or more years of successful leadership experience, preferably in a YMCA or nonprofit organization.
  2. Demonstrated experience leading total branch/facility operations, including staff supervision and development, budgeting and financial performance, membership and programs, facility operations, safety and risk management, volunteer engagement, and community involvement.
  3. Demonstrated success supervising, coaching, and developing leaders while driving operational performance and organizational results.
  4. Strong communication, relationship-building, collaboration, and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively work with diverse staff, volunteers, members, and community stakeholders.
  5. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred, with demonstrated commitment to the YMCA mission, values, and community impact.
  6. Experience supporting staff training, leadership development, coaching, succession planning, or professional development initiatives preferred.
  7. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
  8. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
  9. Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.
  10. Screen, train, and enforce abuse prevention policies for staff.
  11. Promote a reporting culture, address violations, and maintain confidentiality.
  12. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting and communicate zero tolerance to all staff.
  13. Successful completion of required background screening and all applicable organizational, safety, and abuse-prevention requirements.
