Senior Motion Designer - Freelance

Job purpose:

We are looking for a Senior Motion Designer with strong expertise in motion graphics, video editing, and animation to create compelling multimedia content across global platforms. This role involves designing and delivering high-quality motion graphics, guiding creative direction, and collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure excellence in every project.

Job details: 

• Location: 100% Remote – focus on candidates in Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru.
• Schedule: Flexible; must be available to support occasional work outside standard business hours or align with agreed schedules for collaboration with global teams and partners.
• Job Type: Freelance / Contractor (hourly-based engagement).
• Language Proficiency: Upper-intermediate English (B2+) or higher, with strong conversational skills for calls and collaboration with stakeholders.
• Availability: Flexible or part-time, depending on project demand, with the possibility of full-time engagement for periods ranging from one week to two months.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with creative teams to create quality visual design and engaging digital experiences.
• Edit, adapt, version, and localize video content for global brands, ensuring cultural and regional relevance.
• Execute advanced compositing, sound mixing, and create visually compelling 2D motion graphics and animations across diverse projects.
• Design and deliver high-quality video assets optimized for multiple platforms, including TV, web, and mobile.
• Implement and coordinate rigorous quality control processes to maintain brand consistency and meet client expectations.
• Manage digital assets through versioning, organization, and secure storage for efficient reuse and retrieval.
• Develop, own, and track project plans independently, ensuring timely delivery within defined scope and budget.
• Handle client feedback and change requests with professionalism, updating documentation and aligning outputs accordingly.
• Lead projects end-to-end, from creative concept development to technical execution and final delivery.
• Build strong client relationships by actively gathering, managing, and integrating feedback to enhance satisfaction.
• Oversee production workflows, monitor progress, and provide direction to ensure smooth execution across teams.
• Maintain clear, continuous communication with production teams to align on goals, progress, and milestones.
• Lead and mentor the motion design team, fostering skill development, collaboration, and creative excellence.
• Provide creative direction that elevates visual storytelling and ensures impactful motion design deliverables.
• Conduct design reviews, deliver constructive feedback, and drive continuous improvement within the team.
• Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies to introduce innovative practices into projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure seamless integration and delivery of creative assets.

Required Academic Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Motion Design, Multimedia, or a related field.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 7+ years of professional experience in motion design, animation, and video editing, ideally within creative agencies or digital production studios serving global brands.
  
• Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) with advanced compositing, typography, and visual storytelling skills.
• Proficiency with 3D motion graphics software (Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender, etc.).
• Proven ability to craft brand narratives and visual storytelling aligned with campaign strategies and audience engagement.
• Knowledge of video editing and post-production techniques, including workflows for high-volume and multi-platform production.
• Strong background working in fast-paced agency environments, managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Experience collaborating directly with account managers, creative directors, and cross-functional teams to translate briefs into compelling motion solutions.
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior designers and elevating team output through feedback, guidance, and best practices.
• Solid understanding of design principles, animation pipelines, asset versioning, and quality assurance processes for high-volume production.
• Proven experience in project planning, progress reporting, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
• Track record of overseeing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and to the highest standards.
• Ability to foster a collaborative, innovative team environment while promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
• Excellent English communication skills (Spanish proficiency is a plus), with the ability to present concepts, explain design decisions, and collaborate effectively across markets.

Nice to have

• Experience with AR or immersive media.
• Familiarity with project management tools and agile methodologies.
• Basic understanding of audio editing and mixing.
• Prior experience working with global clients and multi-market adaptations.

Certifications (preferred, not mandatory)

• Adobe Certified Expert in Motion Graphics and Visual Effects.
• Cinema 4D Certified Professional in Motion Graphics Design.
• Blender Certified Professional in Motion Graphics Design and Visual Effects.
• Additional training in Advanced Typography, Color Theory, Sound Design, or Design Ethics is a plus
