Senior MEMS Design and Simulation Engineer
Job Description:
Analog Devices, Inc. currently has a position open for a Senior MEMS Design and Simulation Engineer within the Advanced MEMS Development group under the Aerospace, Defense, and Communications Business Unit (ADC). The primary responsibility of this position is to design, simulate, and characterize the MEMS packages and devices to take the initial concept toward productization. Specific job tasks include:
- Simulate and validate MEMS package stresses over different environmental stresses (solder effects, temperature, humidity, etc.).
- Develop and standardize package simulation flow across the MEMS portfolio. Understand and unify MEMS-package interactions and methodologies through co-simulations.
- Work with vendors, and internal and external collaborators to validate material properties. Document and apply these cross-domain learnings with the packaging and IMU System team.
- Innovate, design, and productize high-performance inertial gyroscopes, accelerometers, IMUs, and other devices.
- Characterize and evaluate the fabricated MEMS devices at wafer and part level using wafer probe and characterization equipment such as cascade prober, spectrum analyzer, and Zurich lock-in amplifier.
- Simulate and design the MEMS devices with the device performance across fab process, package, and assembly variations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary development teams to transfer MEMS designs from initiation concept to production.
Qualifications:
The following experiences are required:
- Track record of MEMS innovations and/or successful MEMS product development.
- Hands-on experience and deep understanding of MEMS package simulations across different environmental stresses.
- Experience with material properties and their effects on MEMS performance over temperature and humidity. Excellent documentation and communication skills to cross-pollinate these learnings.
- Hands-on experience with MEMS characterization and probe and test development. Ability to develop probe/test algorithms to enhance test efficiency, error source debugging, and calibrations.
- Strong analytical, simulation, and innovation skills for MEMS gyroscope design and co-design with ASIC, package, and IMU. Ability to develop SPICE models for circuit simulations, and analytical nonlinear coupling models through Simulink or Python.
- Strong understanding of MEMS error sources and ability to verify the error sources with measurement in the lab using probe, bench characterization equipment (e.g. Zurich), and GTS systems.
- Strong mathematical/analytical experience with the ability to develop closed-form expressions to describe electro-mechanical systems and transfer functions.
- Experience in Python, MATLAB and LabVIEW.
- Experience with either Ansys, Comsol, or other FEA tools.
- Experience in linear and nonlinear control systems
- Experience with MEMS process, package, and manufacturing technology.
The candidate should have a PhD in electrical/mechanical engineering, or a Master’s degree with at least 3+ years of work experience in the MEMS industry with excellent communication and presentation skills. High energy and motivation level required to lead technology development and support a fast-growing business.
