The Senior Mechanical Engineer I performs design, layout and calculation of mechanical equipment for modernization and new installations used in the metals industry taking into account contractual, financial, and schedule requirements. The Senior Mechanical Engineer I has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating engineering packages within (modernization) projects.

What you'll do
- Prepares, maintains, revises 3D models, drawings & bill of materials considering all relevant company, industry and safety standards
- Prepares feasibility studies, technical reports and basic design calculations (statics and strength of materials, power transmission & machine elements, materials & manufacturing)
- Conducts a conscientious and thorough design check using checklists and procedures
- Responsible for technical content for operational and maintenance manuals
- Participates and leads internal and external design reviews
- Responsible for in-time, in-quality, in-cost engineering and execution of engineering packages within (modernization) projects
- Problems are being solved independently
- Leads and directs engineering teams within the engineering department, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective engineering project execution
- Coordinates interfaces within Engineering team or other disciplines such as Project Management, supply chain, process, civil/structural, fluids, hydraulics and electrical
- Interfaces outside the organization with customers and suppliers, with responsibility for acting independently on technical, project related matters
- Complies with company policies, practices and standards with regards to Project Management, Engineering, HSE and Quality
- Conducts installation and commissioning activities, including field verifications, troubleshooting, inspection and supervision
- Conducts troubleshooting and support root cause analysis for equipment/installation issues
- Assist in the preparation of proposal documents for sales
- Supports preparation of inquiry documents and technical specifications for procurement
- Assists supply chain with equipment selection and review vendor submittals (GA drawings, manuals, certificates)
- Supports procurement and supplier technical clarifications
- Conducts acceptance tests at suppliers or in workshops
- Drive and contributes to general collaboration and coordination with service workshops
- Ensures safe design practices and prepares documents for risk assessments
- Coordinates and holds training for younger mechanical engineers
- Responsible for lessons learned process and contribute to product improvements
- Involved in product improvement
- Performs other duties as assigned
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required
- Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- min. 5 years’ experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, materials, mechanics of solids, machine design)
- Proficient with CAD software (in particular Creo) and related software
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
