As a Senior Mechanical Designer at Power Design, you'll lead the design, coordination, and development of HVAC and mechanical systems for large-scale design-build and multi-discipline projects. You'll be responsible for creating high-quality, code-compliant mechanical system designs that balance innovation, functionality, energy efficiency, and constructability. Based at our state-of-the-art headquarters in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida, this role requires technical expertise and leadership to guide project teams, mentor junior designers, collaborate across disciplines, and deliver results aligned with Power Design's quality and performance standards.
Position Responsibilities- Lead and oversee the design and documentation of HVAC and mechanical systems, including air distribution, hydronic, ventilation, exhaust, and specialty mechanical systems.
- Provide direction and mentorship to junior designers and engineers to ensure the accuracy, efficiency, and quality of design deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements, including IMC, IBC, ASHRAE, and other relevant mechanical design standards.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, plumbing, electrical, and other design disciplines to ensure system integration and design consistency.
- Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, and design documentation using Revit, AutoCAD, and other discipline-specific software.
- Conduct technical reviews and quality control checks throughout the design and preconstruction phases.
- Perform and review HVAC load calculations, equipment selections, duct and piping sizing, and system performance evaluations.
- Support project estimating efforts by providing accurate system information and constructability recommendations.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
- Drive innovation, value engineering, and continuous improvement across mechanical design workflows.
- Participate in client meetings and provide technical expertise to resolve design, coordination, and constructability challenges.
- Promote Power Design's safety-first culture by ensuring designs support safe and efficient installation practices.
- 7+ years of mechanical design experience supporting commercial, multifamily, hospitality, healthcare, data center, or mixed-use projects.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC and mechanical design principles, system sizing, equipment selection, and applicable building codes.
- Proficiency in Revit, and Bluebeam; experience with project management platforms such as Fieldwire is a plus.
- Experience designing systems including DX, VRF/VRV, chilled water, hydronic, packaged rooftop units, and other commercial HVAC applications.
- Strong understanding of constructability, coordination, and installation methods within a design-build environment.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or EIT certification is preferred, but not required.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to lead projects and mentor team members.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality design solutions.
