About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with strong expertise in vacuum design, design for manufacturability, and materials engineering for high-tech, high-precision applications. This is an individual contributor role for someone with solid technical depth and hands-on shop floor experience, capable of owning mechanical design projects of moderate-to-high complexity with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of components and assemblies from concept through product release, ensuring manufacturability, functionality, and reliability.
  • Evaluate materials — metals, alloys, coatings, composites, and polymers — for performance in demanding environments (vacuum, thermal, dynamic loads), in consultation with senior technical staff on novel or high-risk material choices.
  • Apply GD&T principles and tolerance stack-up analysis to develop designs meeting quality and performance requirements.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical problems with limited supervision.
  • Develop and modify mechanical layouts, schematics, drawings, and specifications.
  • Design mechanical tooling and fixturing to support handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts and subassemblies.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, machining vendors, suppliers, and quality teams to optimize manufacturability and cost.
  • Participate in design reviews and manufacturability assessments for new product introductions.
  • Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and documentation using CAD tools (Creo, NX, or similar).
  • Support prototype development and validation testing, incorporating feedback into design iterations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–8 years of combined practical and theoretical experience in mechanical (vacuum) design
  • Strong expertise in machining and manufacturing processes
  • Proven experience in design for manufacturability and cost optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on experience in high-tech manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated success in vendor collaboration through to product release.
  • Fluent in English, with good proficiency in German.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to high-purity, high-vacuum, or contamination-sensitive applications.
  • Familiarity with coating technologies and heat treatment processes.
  • Experience with engineering change processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and quality systems.
  • Exposure to basic FEA/thermal simulation.
