Mō te tūranga | About the role 

Shape the integrity of DOC’s financial data ecosystem. Play a critical working at the centre of Finance, Procurement, systems, and business operations, influencing how data is governed, maintained, and leveraged to inform decisions that optimise conservation 

As Senior Master Data Steward you will be DOC’s functional lead for financial master data, you will establish and oversee governance frameworks, standards, and controls across supplier, customer, chart of accounts, cost centre, and procurement data. You'll provide expert guidance on complex data matters, build capability across stakeholders, and champion continuous improvement to strengthen data quality, compliance, and operational effectiveness. 

The position will be focussed on: 

  • Lead the governance, integrity, and quality of financial master data, ensuring compliance with organisational policies, legislative requirements, audit expectations, and internal controls 

  • Oversee complex master data requests, approvals, and workflows, providing expert judgement on high-risk or sensitive matters and acting as the escalation point for data-related issues 

  • Monitor, analyse, and report on data quality performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve processes, controls, and system effectiveness 

  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, system owners, and business stakeholders to influence process improvements, support system enhancements, and ensure consistent stewardship practices 

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to the Master Data Steward and wider stakeholder groups, building organisational capability in master data management and governance

  • Strong understanding of data governance, internal controls, risk management, and data quality principles 

  • Demonstrated experience managing master data across its full lifecycle, including creation, maintenance, quality assurance, governance, and disposal 

  • Ability to assess and resolve complex data issues using sound judgement and a strong attention to detail 

  • Experience influencing stakeholders and driving process improvements across multiple teams and systems 

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet service commitments and deadlines 

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organisation 

  • Sound knowledge of finance processes, financial master data, and related business systems 

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA or a similar ERP platform is desirable

The salary range for this position is $80,695.00 – $101,951.00 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience. 

 
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
