The company

Stears is a Pan African financial data and software company that provides access to the most comprehensive data on Africa’s private capital market for fund managers, corporates, and service providers. For Africa-focused investors, Stears provides access to a private transactions database, robust company and fund profiles, industry research, and macro data for country risk analysis. Stears accelerates the deal process by combining hard-to-find data with proprietary enrichment and forecasts.

We’re backed by respected investors including MaC Venture Capital, Serena Ventures, Melo 7 Tech Partners, and Omidyar Group. If you're excited about building data products that power smarter investment decisions in one of the world's most dynamic regions, we’d love to meet you.

The role

Why it’s important: We’re looking for a Senior Marketing Specialist to own how Stears brings our intelligence products to market. You’ll define the messaging, positioning, and go-to-market strategies that differentiate Stears from legacy data providers and establish us as the trusted source for African private market intelligence.

You’ll sit at the intersection of Product, Sales, Marketing, and Intelligence, translating complex features and data offerings into compelling value propositions. Your work will drive customer acquisition, product adoption, and revenue growth across our customer segments.

This role is ideal for a strategic storyteller who loves transforming technical products into commercial successes.

How will This Role Evolve

At Stears, roles are not static. We operate in a rapidly evolving environment where AI, automation, and market demands continually reshape how we work. We hire people who can thrive in this evolution.

As the Senior Marketing Specialist, here is how your role may evolve over the next 12–24 months:

  • Increasing use of AI tools and automation to improve your productivity, analysis, and workflows.
  • Expanding your responsibilities as Stears’ products and client needs mature.
  • Taking on cross-functional projects that connect your expertise with research, product, or commercial teams.
  • Contributing to building processes that do not yet exist today, creating solutions in real time as challenges arise.

Responsibilities

  • Own positioning and messaging: Define and continuously refine how we describe our products, our value, differentiation, and benefits to prospective and current customers.
  • Lead go-to-market launches: Partner with Product and Sales to plan and execute GTM strategies for new features, data sets, and research.
  • Support the revenue team: Equip Sales with marketing collateral to close deals and drive expansion.
  • Create compelling content: Collaborate on website copy, one-pagers, case studies, and email campaigns that clearly communicate Stears’ value to investors.
  • Drive market insight: Conduct customer and competitor research to surface insights that shape product development and marketing strategy.
  • Measure and optimise: Track campaign performance, lead quality, and product adoption to inform future positioning and GTM planning.

Who you will work with: This role is part of the Revenue team.

We are looking for someone with:

Required skills & qualifications: (These are the minimum requirements for the role)

  • 5+ years of experience in product marketing, ideally in SaaS, data platforms, or fintech.
  • Ability to distil technical or abstract concepts into clear, persuasive messaging.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a high degree of ownership.
  • Deeply customer-focused, whether through research, empathy, or data analysis.
  • Experience working closely with Product, Sales, and/or Intelligence teams to shape strategy and execution.

Preferred skills & qualifications: (These skills & qualifications are not necessary, but will be highly valued)

  • Experience in private equity, venture capital, investment banking, or financial intelligence.
  • Familiarity with financial statements, valuation metrics, and corporate ownership structures.
  • You are excited by the mission of making Africa’s markets more transparent and investable.

What It Takes To Thrive at Stears

At Stears, we operate in a dynamic and rapidly evolving landscape. That means constant change, complexity, and a degree of unpredictability: it’s the nature of building the most trusted financial data platform in Africa. We’re looking for individuals who thrive in this environment, who are comfortable with ambiguity and eager to adapt. If you prefer a highly structured environment, Stears might not be the best fit, and that’s okay.

Before you apply, we’d like you to consider if you:

  • Are deeply passionate about understanding and driving positive change in the financial information ecosystem in Africa
  • Can embrace rapid professional growth and actively seek opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Can navigate a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly to meet evolving market needs.
  • Can demonstrate resilience and resourcefulness in the face of uncertainty, and see change as an opportunity for growth.
  • Can bring strong analytical skills and well-informed perspectives to the table.
  • Can collaborate effectively with diverse teams, valuing different viewpoints to achieve shared goals.
  • Can work responsibly, efficiently and effectively in a digital-first and often remote environment.
