JOB SUMMARY


The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading complex manufacturing and process engineering initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance across operations. This role serves as a subject matter expert for manufacturing processes and equipment, utilizing advanced engineering principles, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies to optimize process capability and operational performance. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer works with minimal supervision, independently drives strategic improvement efforts, and provides technical leadership and mentoring to engineers, technicians, and operations personnel.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead complex process engineering projects from concept through implementation, including capital equipment, automation, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical expert for manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and process controls.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex manufacturing issues using advanced problem-solving and statistical techniques.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in support of operational excellence, new product introduction, cost reduction, quality improvement, and capacity expansion initiatives.
  • Develop and implement advanced process controls, monitoring systems, and best practices to improve process capability and reduce variation.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers, technicians, operators, and other functional teams.
  • Evaluate and justify capital expenditure through technical and financial analysis.
  • Support strategic manufacturing objectives through data-driven decision making and long-term process improvement planning.
  • Develop, standardize, and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to ensure manufacturability and robust process implementation.
  • Lead risk assessments, PFMEA activities, process validation efforts, and corrective action investigations.
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while achieving established objectives and deadlines.
  • Act as a technical resource across departments and manufacturing sites.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading significant process improvement, automation, capital equipment, or operational excellence projects.
  • Working knowledge of advanced statistical tools used to reduce variations. Six Sigma Black or Green Belt certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Flexible, open-minded team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal direction.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving capabilities to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing and team environments
  • Experience leading focused improvement or Kaizen projects
    • Injection Molding experience preferred
    • Strong SolidWorks or other design software experience preferred
    • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings per applicable industry standards
    • Understanding of various manufacturing methods (machining, molding, sheet metal, etc.).
    • The ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, growth-oriented business environment and a flexible professional demeanor and self-directed work approach
    • Proficient with Microsoft Applications such as Word, Excel, etc.
    • Ability to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to this position and safety
    • Experience with programmable logic controllers, ladder logic, and other machine control systems a plus

Base Salary Range for this position is: $94,200 to $141,400 annually, and bonus target is 3%; shift premium may be available depending on shift associated with the specific job opportunity. Benefits including Medical, Rx, Vision, Dental, and Health Savings Account (HSA), Retirement and Security benefits including 401k and Life Insurance. In addition to Paid Time Off and paid Holidays, each employee receives 16 hours paid time each calendar year to perform volunteer services for Nordson-sponsored events. The base pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, business considerations, and local market conditions, as well as candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, and skills.
