About MISUMI Americas

MISUMI Americas, a division of MISUMI Group, is a leading provider of standard, configurable, and custom manufacturing solutions. By integrating a vast catalog of components with a world-class digital manufacturing platform, MISUMI Americas empowers engineers and procurement teams to accelerate innovation across the entire product lifecycle. With operations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago, the company serves as a vital partner for the most innovative companies in the Americas.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer role is a senior-level, hands-on manufacturing engineering position responsible for defining how custom parts are built and priced—reviewing manufacturability, generating competitive quotes, and providing design feedback that brings products to market faster. The role serves as a technical authority who helps raise the bar for costing and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) quality across regions.
MISUMI Americas serves three sets of customers—builders who order parts through us, manufacturing partners who make and assemble those parts, and our world-class sales professionals who rely on fast, accurate quoting and DFM support to win and serve accounts. This role sits at the interface of all three. As a senior member of the team, this person also coaches and mentors other engineers and partners closely with the Global Capability Center (GCC) Costing and DFM team, with room to grow their scope and influence over time.

Manufacturing Engineering & Quoting
● Release package review — Analyze models, drawings, parts lists, and other data to determine scope of work, manufacturing feasibility, requirements, and minimum lead time.
● Quoting — Combine engineering analysis with platform recommendations to generate quotes for builders or collaborate with external suppliers to determine the parameters needed to quote.
● Cost calculator generation — Use fabrication expertise and an understanding of process cost drivers to build cost calculators that bring quoting in-house for new service offerings.
● DFx feedback — Provide design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly feedback to builders, recommending changes that improve manufacturability, reduce part cost, or ease assembly.
● Automation feedback — Feed insights back to the quoting software team to improve the accuracy of automated quoting across manufacturing services.
● Drawing generation — Produce high-quality 2D drawings per ANSI/ASME Y14.5 standards.
Mentorship & Cross-Functional Collaboration
● Coaching & mentorship — Coach and mentor engineers on the US and GCC Costing and DFM teams, sharing fabrication and costing expertise to help them grow.
● Best practices & peer review — Help establish and document costing and DFM best practices, review work, and provide feedback that improves technical accuracy and consistency across regions.
● Cross-functional leadership — Lead through influence across engineering, sourcing, sales, quality, and software, aligning stakeholders on costing and DFM decisions without relying on direct authority.
● Dotted-line coordination — Guide and coordinate the technical work of engineers who do not report to this role (including GCC and cross-regional partners) and keep shared initiatives on track.
All employees are expected to maintain and contribute to the QMS.

● 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent technical training.
● 5–10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, costing/DFM, or related custom mechanical hardware work.
● Hands-on experience across multiple custom mechanical manufacturing processes (sheet metal, urethane casting, injection molding, etc.); CNC machining and 3D printing experience is a must.
● Strong understanding of GD&T and conventional (coordinate) tolerancing, and deep knowledge of the manufacturability and limitations of common metals and plastics.
● Experience mentoring or coaching other engineers and acting as a technical resource; collaborating with offshore/GCC teams is a plus.
● Proven ability to lead through influence and coordinate cross-functional or dotted-line teams without direct reporting authority.
● Thrives with a high degree of autonomy—owns their workload end to end, exercises sound technical judgment independently, and drives decisions to closure in a remote environment with minimal oversight.
● Excellent written and verbal communication in English; comfortable working across multicultural, cross-functional teams.
● Meticulous and detail-oriented, with a documentation mindset. Experience with APQP/PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ, EV/DV/PV, or NPI processes and/or PMP certification is a plus.
● Experience in AS9100, ISO 13485, or other highly regulated industries is highly recommended.

This position will work primarily remotely, computer-based work involving prolonged periods at a workstation reviewing CAD models and 2D drawings. Occasional visits to manufacturing partner facilities may involve a shop-floor environment (noise, moving equipment) and the ability to move about the facility. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Benefits include, but are not limited to:
