About the Role
The Senior Engineering Manager - Functional Safety is the primary owner of all Functional Safety topics within the Product Area, including development of Functional and Technical Safety Concepts and delivery of Safety Cases. This role includes leadership of a global team of Functional Safety managers and engineers.
Your Responsibilities

  • Lead a global team of Functional Safety managers and engineers
  • Lead/oversee all FuSa activities for product area globally
  • Act as the primary interface for all Functional Safety topics internally and externally
  • Ensure the execution of safety activities in the product's lifecycle to achieve safety according to ISO26262 and ISO21448, including management of safety risks.
  • Lead initiatives for improving the engineering processes to ensure compliance to applicable industry standards and regulations
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of ongoing functional safety initiatives
  • Lead the creation of functional safety awareness training programs to strengthen the organizational safety culture
  • Provide input to department and project budgets and personnel plans to support FuSa project deliverables
  • Own and lead the Functional Safety Development Interface Agreement with the customer during the program quotation phase, and ensure that the required level of resources is communicated to the functional areas and program management.
  • Conduct ISO 26262 functional safety audits, confirmation reviews, and functional safety assessments for all relevant customer programs.
  • Ensure ISO 26262 and ASPICE compliance for FuSa activities for all programs in product area
  • Coach and lead the functional safety engineers program ISO 26262 compliance activities.
  • May have direct reports in region and dotted-line oversight responsibilities (working in conjunction with local management) for FuSa resources in other regions
  • Develop and report on metrics/KPIs for global FuSa team
  • Support RFQs and CRs by leading the FuSa content of Technical Design Reviews and providing FuSa effort estimates
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety measures into the design, development, and testing processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on safety-related topics and concerns.
  • Escalate unresolved safety issues according to a defined escalation path.
  • Conduct and/or support technical reviews and assessments for safety-relevant work products.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all safety related engineering activities are understood and carried out by the responsible teams.
  • Foster safety culture.


Who we are looking for
Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Software Engineering or similar major (Master's degree preferred)
  • 8+ years' experience in the field of functional safety engineering in the design and development of electrical/electronic automotive products
  • 5+ years' experience in leading an automotive engineering team in a globally distributed work environment, preferably in functional safety

  • Demonstrated capability in people leadership, including the development of successful, impactful teams in a highly technical environment
  • Candidate should be a thought leader and technical expert in the area of Functional Safety
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in recruiting and leading high performing engineers for complex projects
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and systematic problem-solving skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge in delivering technical training and ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Project management knowledge is desired.


Technical

  • Solid background in systems engineering, electrical hardware engineering, or software engineering in the Automotive industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive functional safety and risk management, preferably in the ADAS space.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards and regulations, such as ISO 26262 and ISO 21448, with proven experience in the implementation of the standards in automotive programs.
  • Excellent experience in the creation of Safety Concept, Safety Case and Development Interface Agreements with both customers and suppliers.
  • Knowledge in Functional and Technical Safety Concepts and confirmation measures.
  • In-depth knowledge in the areas of safety analysis for System, Hardware, and Software including FMEA, Common Cause Analysis, Dependent Failure Analysis, FTA, FMEDA, HARA
  • Familiarity with automotive product development processes and systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of V&V strategies and methods applicable to safety products.

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).

  • Some travel (domestic and international) may be needed.
