WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You will report to the Director of Marketplace Data Engineering and lead multiple engineering squads (or one large squad) within the enterprise team that curates, governs, and serves Nike Direct and Marketplace data products. You will partner with Product leadership, Architects, BI Experience leadership, Platform leadership, and Data Governance to shape strategy, roadmap, and execution. You will manage Engineering Managers and/or Senior ICs, grow technical talent, and own the delivery, reliability, and operational health of the data products in your portfolio.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader with a strong technical foundation, a track record of building high-performing teams, and the ability to drive strategy and execution at enterprise scale.
A minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years managing software or data engineering teams (including managing managers preferred).
Strong technical foundation in backend and/or data engineering — able to engage in design reviews, challenge architecture choices, and earn the trust of senior ICs.
Proven experience leading teams that build and operate production data platforms — APIs, pipelines, warehouses, semantic/ontology layers — at scale.
Deep understanding of modern data ecosystems: Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Airflow, Kafka, dbt, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Demonstrated ability to set multi-quarter roadmaps, balance KLO/TCO reduction with new investment, and drive aggressive simplification.
Track record of attracting, hiring, growing, and retaining strong engineering talent across levels (SWE I through Principal).
Strong operational rigor — SLAs, observability, on-call practices, incident response, capacity and cost management.
Proven ability to partner with Product, Design, BI Experience, and other cross-functional stakeholders to land outcomes that matter to the business.
Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to senior leadership and writing crisp strategy documents.
Experience working with globally distributed teams and time zones.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field — or equivalent experience.
Preferred: experience leading data product organizations at retail, commerce, or consumer scale; experience with agentic/AI-powered analytics platforms; experience driving large migrations or decommissions.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
As a Senior Engineering Manager in Marketplace Data Engineering, you will lead the people, execution, and operational health of multiple data product squads serving the Nike enterprise.
You will own the delivery of the data products in your portfolio — APIs, pipelines, consumption and ontology layers — partnering with Product on the roadmap and trade-offs.
You will manage Engineering Managers and/or senior ICs — coaching them, growing their careers, and holding the bar on engineering and leadership excellence.
You will drive a single source of truth for Nike Direct and Marketplace data in collaboration with BI Experience teams, and aggressively simplify the data products landscape to reduce KLO/TCO.
You will co-create agentic and AI-powered consumption experiences with BI Experience leadership, ensuring business context and metric consistency are embedded in our code and systems.
You will own production reliability, security, and cost across your squads — setting SLAs, leading major incident response, and driving operational maturity.
You will partner with the Platform team to adopt recommended toolkits and blueprints, and influence the platform roadmap where gaps exist.
You will attract and hire exceptional engineers, build an inclusive and high-trust culture, and grow people across levels from SWE I to Principal.
You will represent the organization in cross-Nike forums, contribute to enterprise data architecture and governance decisions, and translate strategy into clear team commitments.
