Oversees and performs independent assessments to assist the audit committees of the parent company and subsidiaries to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of the organization's systems of internal control and its ability to meet its objectives,Continuously re-assesses how changes to organisational structure and execution of corporate strategy affect the key TMX objectives, risks, and controls, so that the assurance being provided by Internal Audit can continue to be relevant, timely and appropriate,
Is responsible for planning and directing the work of the Managers, Senior Internal Auditors and Internal Auditors, including regular monitoring of their work and taking corrective action when necessary to accomplish the audit objectives,
Communicates regularly with all levels of management and the Senior Management Team on the audit universe, audit planning, audit reporting and relevant audit findings, and
Shapes the direction and development of the Internal Audit department by providing technical and behavioural guidance to other staff members in the performance of their assignments, and ensuring that we maintain independence from management commensurate with our third line of defence role.
Delivery of assurance
Develop, with the Chief Internal Auditor, the annual Internal Audit plan that lays out the departmental priorities that satisfy the objectives and responsibilities of management and the audit committees of the parent company and subsidiaries.
Responsible for the Internal Audit CEO/CFO Certification program executing the annual audits in relation to the program and supporting the quarterly work from Internal Audit on the Financial Statements, MD&A and other quarterly activities.
Manage and oversee the execution of the audit plans, including workload allocations, progress of ongoing audits, additions of ad hoc assignments, and long term project involvement of the department staff.
Evaluate risks and control gaps that could have a significant impact on preventing the achievement of TMX Group operational, financial, strategic and compliance objectives.
Coordinates with KPMG Partners and staff to ensure that the statutory audit and internal audit teams collaborate and achieve audit efficiencies.
Prepares materials and assists with quarterly reporting requirements for release to TMX’s regulators, all levels of management, the Senior Management Team, and audit committees of TMX Group and its designated subsidiaries.
Oversees the quarterly control confirmation and sub-certification processes, including the maintenance and operation of the governance, risk and compliance application.
Reviews the working paper files of the Managers, Senior Internal Auditors, and Internal Auditors to ensure they comply with department standards / methodology,
Audit process quality
Ensure appropriate accountabilities are assigned to the team to effectively execute audit deliverables.
Ensure quality of work prepared by the department is reviewed for consistency and compliance with Internal Audit methodology standards.
Review all engagement plans, risk assessments and final engagement deliverables with the Chief Internal Auditor.
Value-add consulting
Perform continuous assessment with TMX management to identify operational efficiencies and provide value-added recommendations for improvements observed during the execution of the annual audit plan.
Staff potential maximisation
Cultivate culture within the department to develop a forward-thinking team that has a global perspective and incorporates innovation into their everyday work.
Provide coaching, training and oversight to the staff of the Internal Audit department.
Develop department performance objectives, behaviours, and targets that align with the organization’s overall strategic direction, and ensure these are clearly communicated to the department.
Response to changes in the organization
Demonstrate effective decision-making in managing complex or ambiguous issues and flexibility in adapting to changing situational factors.
Manage the relationships and anticipate the requirements of internal and external stakeholders (audit committees, management, regulators) to the TMX Internal Audit department to ensure our obligations are fully met.
Draw conclusions and linkages to overarching issues that impact corporate objectives when performing reviews of controls and processes within TMX.
Skills & Experience
CPA designation is required
CIA certification is an asset
8-12 years of audit experience
Proficient with Google for Work and Microsoft applications
Knowledge of IFRS, generally accepted auditing standards, IT general controls and requirements for CEO/CFO Certification and NI 52-109 are an asset
