As the Senior Manager, Engineering [DevSecMLOps], you will play a critical role in driving the development and scaling of our DevSecMLOps practices. We believe that DevSecMLOps Engineers are force multipliers and have a disproportionate positive impact on the broader Technology (Engineering, Data, and ML) organization. You will lead a high-performing team, ensuring that our services are reliable, scalable, secure, and optimized for performance. Your strategic vision will guide the team in building and maintaining loosely coupled services and low-latency data stores, essential for our fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy:
    • Lead and manage a team of engineers focused on DevSecMLOps, providing mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities.
    • Develop and execute a strategic vision for DevSecMLOps that aligns with the company’s goals and drives innovation in Engineering Excellence.
    • Scale and optimize engineering processes, ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, high volume, and high-performance services.
    • Lead the newly formed MLOps function with an opinionated PoV on what greatness looks like and guide the team implement the vision. 
  • Technical Excellence:
    • Provide operational, infrastructural, and scale guidance to the architecture and implementation of loosely coupled services with low-latency and high volume data stores.
    • Create a roadmap for and drive operational excellence with right sized monitoring,  instrumentation guidance, and tooling for a self-service Engineering organization.
    • Implement best practices in software engineering for performant, reliable, and cost optimized systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate DevSecMLOps practices into the software development life cycle.
  • Innovation, Stakeholder management, and Change Management:
    • Drive greatness in DevSecMLOps processes, tools, and practices towards Engineering Excellence.
    • Lead change management efforts to influence successful adoption of new technologies and mechanisms.
    • Stay aware of emerging technologies, identify opportunities, drive PoCs  to enhance our technology stack.
    • Understand the why behind the company strategy, and build DevSecMLOps practices that enrich and uplevel the entire technology  organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in DevSecMLOps and SRE in building and scaling high volume, high throughput systems with loosely coupled services and low-latency data stores.
  • Proven track record of at least 10 years in leadership roles, managing and scaling DevSecMLOps and SRE organizations.
  • Proven track record of right sized telemetry, observability, and monitoring of services with clear SLI, SLO, and SLAs.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment in a high-growth technology or technology-enabled company.
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and the ability to lead change in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and departments.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Deep understanding of best practices for managing a reliable and secure Kubernetes cluster.
  • Experience in building infrastructure and tools for service-oriented architectures.
  • Proven track record of improving developer experience across teams.
  • Knowledge of security tools and technologies, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-specific or highly regulated security challenges and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with developer tools for A/B testing, blue/green deployments, and cohort separation.
  • Proficiency in developer productivity tools.
  • Experience with MLOperations that accelerate the productization, monitoring of model deterioration, and reporting.

Additional Physical Job Requirements

  • Reading English, comprehending, and following simple oral and written instructions. 
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.  Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. 
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound. 
  • Frequent repeating motions required to operate a computer or phone that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Environmental Conditions: occasional exposure to low temperatures or high temperatures, outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind, and noisy environments.
  • Physical Activities: 
    • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs, ramps and the like.
    • Moving about to accomplish tasks and/or moving from one worksite to another. 
    • Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions. 
    • Operating motor vehicles.
    • Occasional sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing/driving/flying

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $180,000 - 225,000

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes - Required up to 15% of the time . Engineering on/off sites.

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Illinois, New York, Kansas, Texas, Maryland, Washington (WA), Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin.
