DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
New England Public Media (NEPM), based in Springfield, MA, is a service of the WGBH Educational Foundation (GBH) and provides Western Massachusetts with a broad array of local and national public media programs and services across all media – TV, radio, online, and mobile – including PBS and NPR programs as well as locally produced series, podcasts, and specials. It is a treasured resource in the region for news, jazz and classical music, educational programming, and community engagement.

As part of GBH Development, the Springfield-based NEPM fundraising team plays a vital role in engaging donors and supporters throughout Western Massachusetts who are passionate about NEPM's local journalism, programming, and community impact. Working in close collaboration with colleagues across GBH's broader Development organization, the Springfield team integrates the extensive institutional capabilities of a national public media leader with the specialized insight and regional dedication of a high-impact local team.

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to GBH’s Senior Director, Major Annual Giving, the Senior Development Manager leads NEPM development strategy and donor engagement efforts throughout Western Massachusetts, with responsibility for approximately $2 million in annual philanthropic revenue. This position oversees the Murrow Society, NEPM’s high-end annual fund patron program for supporters contributing $1,200 or more.

The Senior Development Manager leads a team of two NEPM-based fundraising professionals, responsible for donor acquisition, retention, upgrades, stewardship, and pipeline growth through timely generation of annual fund appeals and acknowledgements, and execution of ongoing donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities, including communications and special events. This is a transformative period for NEPM, as it navigates profound changes in its business model, driven by the changing media landscape and evolving sources of revenue. The Senior Development Manager is a valued counsel and thought partner to NEPM’s president and regularly interacts with NEPM advisors and major donors. Some local travel and occasional evening and weekend hours required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead NEPM’s annual fund and major gifts strategy, establishing annual priorities, revenue projections, donor growth plans, and engagement strategies to achieve approximately $2 million in philanthropic support.

  • Develop and oversee the Murrow Society patron program, building out donor engagement and stewardship strategies including but not limited to events, communications, and recognition to strengthen philanthropic relationships and support unrestricted revenue growth.  

  • Collaborate with NEPM President on a portfolio of priority donors and prospects and serve on the President's leadership team. 

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of fundraising professionals, ensuring achievement of individual and team goals.

  • Serve as a key point of contact for the NEPM Board of Advisors and support quarterly board meetings.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across GBH Development, Membership, Marketing, and Executive Leadership to maximize fundraising opportunities and support integrated campaign strategies where appropriate.

  • Represent GBH and NEPM throughout Western Massachusetts.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

  • Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, annual fund management and/or major gifts experience preferred.

  • Prior supervisory experience.

Preferred 

  • Knowledge of public media.

  • Experience working with executive and board leadership.

Salary Range$110,630 - $140,600Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and internal pay equity.
