We are currently seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Manager, Community Relations for a Mega-Project in NY/NJ. Program background
The Gateway Program is the most urgent infrastructure program in the country – a comprehensive set of rail investments that will improve commuter and intercity services, add needed resiliency and, in its later stages, create new capacity between Newark, New Jersey and New York City, the busiest section of the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The first phase of the Gateway Program includes the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP), which includes the construction of a new two-track tunnel under the Hudson River connecting to Penn Station New York as well as the full rehabilitation of the existing 110-year-old North River Tunnel. The Gateway Development Commission (GDC), established through bi-state legislation, is responsible for the financing and development of the Hudson Tunnel Project.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Position involves design and execution of public outreach and community relations plans for complex transportation infrastructure projects. With the goal of creating project awareness and understanding, as well as positive project perception, the position will require expert skill and experience in a variety of internal and external communication strategies, plus the ability to create strong relationships with impacted residents and businesses, community/business organizations, elected officials, regulatory agencies, the client-owner, and company-internal constituents.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working in conjunction with Gateway Development Commission, prepares a variety of marketing communications for approval by client and project teams, subsequently executing the marketing tactics and measuring/reporting on levels of success.
Responsibilities will involve project research, extensive writing (press releases, articles, speeches, social media, project website content, etc.), advertising and collateral development (flyers, brochures, presentations), event planning, media relations, media buying/PSA negotiations, and photography coordination. Will work closely with graphic designers, programmers, printers, and various other internal/external service providers. May be responsible for establishing and maintaining project-specific public outreach/community relations budget within the limits of the task order or contract.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, or Journalism (or equivalent) and at least 10 years of directly related work experience in a Transportation related field. Must have experience in media relations.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Exceptional written/verbal communication abilities, as well as superior organizational and interpersonal skills are required, plus creativity and ability to meet multiple deadlines. Must be detail-oriented and able to work independently and as part of a team. Aptitude for public speaking is essential.
Exemplary professional attitude and demonstrated ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and excellent customer service and support, is required, as is the ability to interface effectively with a variety of people. Position requires strong knowledge of corporate policies and procedures, plus ability to appropriately handle confidential issues.
Excellent PC skills (MS Word, MS Excel etc.) as well as an ability to work in html, utilize graphics programs, and Microsoft Office SharePoint server technologies required.
