Twitter is looking for an experienced in-house employment attorney to join the global employment counsel team.
The right candidate is a passionate employment law expert - a creative and smart problem solver who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, often unstructured and high-intensity environment, with broad responsibility and meaningful impact. We are looking for someone to bring legal smarts, litigation experience, problem-solving creativity, analytical rigor, business sense, a strong work ethic, cross-functional muscle, fast on-your-feet thinking, comfort in unfamiliar environments, and a growth mindset.
This role requires strong trust and relationship building skills to help solve challenging legal issues and shape responsive strategies, working proactively and with people in teams throughout the organization, including members of People, Communications, Corporate Security, Information Security, Sales, Corporate Development, Finance, Tax and Stock Administration. We also expect this role to be experienced and comfortable with formulating and executing litigation strategy, while working closely with and managing external counsel in a high-intensity litigation environment.
You will:

Serve as in-house legal advisor and key in-house legal partner for the company’s US employment litigation, working closely with the head of global employment law, head of litigation, and external counsel to formulate and execute on litigation strategy from pre-litigation (including administrative proceedings), discovery, motion practice, and trial in arbitration and court forums.

Serve as in-house legal advisor on a broad spectrum of employment law matters, mainly in the US, including: talent acquisition, workplace investigations, performance management, leaves of absence and accommodations, separations, onboarding, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, employee privacy, contingent workforce issues

Evaluate employment practices for legal risk, establish priorities for process improvements, and execute on established priorities

Draft, review, and/or revise playbooks, policies, employment-related agreements and templates

Assist in developing and conducting training and education programs for employees, managers, and the People team

Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and external counsel, and manage projects with a team-oriented approach

Review and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries
Qualifications
You have:
-
At least seven years of relevant experience, which must include time with a top major law firm and prior relevant in-house experience (strongly preferred), and including litigation in employment matters

Entrepreneurial mindset: flexible, self-starting, and strong work ethic

Comfort evaluating legal and other business risks in light of business and practical considerations and ability to make clear, business savvy recommendations

Skilled in building trust quickly with cross-functional partners, with demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a legal team and cross-functionally with members at all levels of the growing organization

Strong interpersonal skills, team mindset, and superior attention to detail

Demonstrated resilience and comfort working in a company experiencing rapid growth

Experience advising People team and other cross-functional partners in building strategies to execute and operationalize advice

International employment experience including with respect to employment litigation strongly preferred

Sound business and legal judgment

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Experience developing and presenting training to employees and managers a plus

J.D. from an accredited law school and membership in at least one state bar (preferably California) or license to practice law in an international location
