Job Summary

This position is for a Sr IT Product Line Specialist who will serve as a technical leader on the Web/Container Services Team.  This team is responsible for designing, building, and supporting container and middleware web environments to enable business applications.  The position’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to Kubernetes (OpenShift & AWS/EKS) and WebLogic.  Additional responsibilities may include evaluation, acquisition, installation, integration testing, upgrading components and performance monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Projects (or assists in projecting) software and hardware requirements. Plans, designs, installs and supports technology platforms or product lines. Facilitates technical and business planning for upgrades. Provides technical guidance relating to the operating system to members of the IT staff.

  • Exhibits deep expertise in a standard technology platform or product line.  Has life cycle responsibility for platform or product line.

  • Coordinates the activities of upgrades or replacements with the other sections in the IT function.

  • Prepares activity and progress reports regarding the activities of the platform or product line.

  • Keeps abreast of new hardware and software developments, evaluates alternative approaches, and recommends new software or modifications which enhance operations and reliability.  

Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science

  • Minimum 6 years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 6 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 8 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous Duke Energy experience

  • Experience with Kubernetes Container platforms

  • Understanding packaging of applications for Kubernetes

  • Experience supporting Java applications in Oracle WebLogic

  • Working knowledge of scripting languages: WLST, Python, BASH, and others

  • Experience with Puppet for configuration management

  • Understanding of Kubernetes pods, deployments, services, namespaces, & daemonsets

  • Understanding Helm charts and Yaml files

  • Understand basic networking for applications that are running in Kubernetes

  • Understanding of debugging and logging of Kubernetes applications

  • Understanding of kubectl commands

  • Understanding of container security with modernization of applications

  • Understanding of Integrated build and CI/CD tools for secure DevOps practices

  • Understanding of Container content scanners and vulnerability management tools

  • Understanding of External vaults and key management solutions

  • Understanding of DevOPS tools, container orchestration lifecycle, and CI/CD automated pipeline

  • Ability to resolve complex issues  with little management oversight

  • Ability to research independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines under tight timeframes.

  • Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with different levels within the organization.

  • Ability to work effectively in a work plan driven/team environment.

  •  Recognizes appropriate times to raise issues and provide status updates

  • Ability to effectively prioritize activities and focus team efforts based-on priority

  • Strong interpersonal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, negotiations, etc).

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Works independently with very little direct supervision or review

  • Ability to present information on technically complex subjects in an understandable manner in both oral and written form to senior management and any other necessary audience

  • Displays maturity in approach and ability to effectively handle stress and frustration

  •  Demonstrates the ability to absorb change and continue with positive results

Working Conditions
  • Virtual Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from a remote location after the onboarding period. However, virtual employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
