Senior IT Manager
About Neon Redwood
Neon Redwood is a technology and IT services consulting company, delivering managed IT, cybersecurity, and cloud operations for venture capital, private equity, family office, and life-sciences clients. We are a team of passionate engineers and IT professionals, and we are currently looking for a Senior IT Manager to expand our managed IT and security practice across our internal team and our client portfolio.
The Role
We are seeking a hands-on IT Manager with strong experience across managed IT, cloud infrastructure, and endpoint security. As part of the technical backbone of our day-to-day operations: keeping environments secure, compliant, and well-documented for Neon Redwood and the client organizations we serve.
This full-time, on-site role (San Francisco Bay Area) reports to our Senior Director of IT and works alongside a dynamic IT team. You'll spend your day administering cloud and identity systems, supporting users, implementing security controls, and helping onboard new clients and employees. It's a great fit for someone who likes solving real technical problems across a variety of environments rather than sitting in strategy meetings.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day IT support and operations for Neon Redwood and a portfolio of client organizations: troubleshooting, ticket resolution, and keeping systems running.
Administer cloud and identity infrastructure across AWS (VPN, backup/recovery), Google Workspace (GAM), SSO platforms, and device management.
Implement and maintain security controls and endpoint protection; help enforce security policies (WISP, acceptable-use/AI, DR, incident response) and assist with incident response when issues arise.
Endpoint and device lifecycle: provisioning, onboarding/offboarding, hardware procurement, and inventory.
Support compliance and data-retention work for regulated clients, including SEC document retention and cloud archival migrations.
New-client onboarding and transitions: environment setup, migrations, and documentation.
Help evaluate and test vendor tools; run side-by-side comparisons before the team commits to a platform.
Support physical IT and office build-outs: networking (Cisco Meraki/UniFi), AV and conference rooms, badging, and physical security (Verkada).
Help enable AI tooling (Claude, ChatGPT, NotebookLM) with appropriate security and compliance guardrails.
Requirements
5+ years of hands-on IT experience, including systems administration or IT engineering in a multi-client or multi-entity cross platform environment.
Strong hands-on skills across cloud and identity: AWS, Google Workspace, Okta, Duo, and device management.
Solid endpoint security and IT operations fundamentals; comfortable implementing controls and following established security policies.
White glove support for end users and resolving technical issues calmly across many concurrent priorities.
Strong documentation habits and clear communication.
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
Additional Skills (Nice to Have)
Experience in an MSP or fractional-IT model serving VC, PE, family office, or biotech clients.
Experience supporting regulated industries (financial services, life sciences) and their compliance requirements.
Hands-on with networking and physical-security hardware (Meraki, UniFi, Verkada).
Familiarity with backup/DR tooling and archival/compliance platforms (Box, Smarsh).
Experience with AI-tool enablement (Claude, ChatGPT, Google Workspace Studio).
