  • Lead and deliver infrastructure projects from design to handover, on time, within scope and to a high standard.
  • Own the resolution of complex incidents and problems, leading root cause analysis and driving lasting fixes.
  • Build and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities for critical systems, including regular testing.
  • Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code to reduce manual effort, improve consistency and make the estate easier to run.
  • Build security into designs and solutions from the outset, working with our security teams to meet policy and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and deliver solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, standards and runbooks.
  • Take part in the team’s on-call and out-of-hours support arrangements where required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience in an infrastructure engineering role, with a strong understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure components (e.g. networking, virtualization, storage, cloud computing, domain services).
  • Strong proficiency in both Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
  • Substantial hands-on experience designing, operating and troubleshooting large VMware estates or alternate virtualization platforms.
  • Experience with automation and DevOps tooling (e.g. Ansible, Python, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines), with a track record of automating real operational work.
  • Sound knowledge of IT security principles and practices, and the ability to build security into designs and solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a results-oriented mindset, with the ability to diagnose complex issues under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering projects, with working knowledge of Agile or other delivery methodologies.
  • A collaborative approach, and a willingness to mentor and develop others.
