Madden’s on Gull Lake is seeking an experienced, highly organized Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our two-person Human Resources team. Working directly with the Director of Human Resources, this role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys variety, takes ownership, builds strong relationships, and is comfortable independently supporting a large and highly seasonal hospitality workforce.
As the Director’s primary operational HR partner, the Senior HR Generalist will help lead day-to-day HR operations across recruiting and onboarding, HRIS and employee records, benefits, employee support, seasonal and international workforce administration, engagement, employee relations, and compliance.
This isn’t an HR role that stays behind a desk. You’ll be a visible, approachable HR presence throughout the resort, connecting with employees and leaders across shifts while staying accountable for your HR responsibilities, projects, and deadlines. During peak season, you’ll spend time out in the operation visiting departments, leading orientations and employee events, and staying connected to what’s happening throughout the resort.
Position DetailsWhat You'll Do
• Manage recruiting, offers, background checks, hiring paperwork, I-9s, onboarding, and new-hire coordination.
• Maintain accurate HRIS and employee records and process approved job, status, compensation, and employment changes.
• Support employee benefits, enrollments, qualifying events, open enrollment, and employee benefit questions.
• Serve as a first-line HR resource for employees and managers and help resolve routine HR questions and concerns.
• Support employee relations, investigations, documentation, policy administration, and compliance initiatives.
• Coordinate assigned J-1/H-2B, seasonal workforce, employee housing, arrival/departure, and orientation activities.
• Coordinate employee engagement, recognition, surveys, events, and employee communications.
• Support safety, workers' compensation administration, employment reporting, audits, and other HR compliance activities.
• Partner closely with Payroll/Accounting to ensure approved employee and benefit changes are reflected accurately.
• Provide high-level support to the Director of Human Resources and independently manage assigned HR projects and recurring deadlines.
• Provide primary HR department coverage in the Director of Human Resources' absence, independently handling routine and time-sensitive matters within delegated authority.
Education & Experience
• Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Three or more years of progressively responsible human resources experience preferred.
• Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, HRIS/employee records, benefits, employee relations, and employment compliance strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience supporting employment-based immigration or international workforce programs, including J-1 and/or H-2B processes, documentation, onboarding, status tracking, and compliance coordination, is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting a seasonal workforce is required; hospitality or resort experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with Paycom or a comparable HRIS/payroll platform is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Strong working knowledge of general HR practices and the ability to recognize when an issue requires escalation.
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to research routine issues independently.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal hospitality environment with changing priorities and to flex working hours during peak season to support employees and leaders across a variety of resort shifts.
Schedule: This is a full-time, year-round with seasonal schedule flexibility. During peak season, you'll flex your hours to support employees working a variety of shifts, including one scheduled day per week from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Additional flexibility may occasionally be needed for orientations, employee events, seasonal arrivals and departures, and other business needs.
