About 1X

We’re an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.

We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That’s why we’re focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life.

We’re looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we’d be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.

Role Overview:

The Senior Harness Manufacturing Engineer will own the full lifecycle of wiring systems that bring every subsystem of a humanoid robot to life, managing the process from the first prototype through to high-volume production. A primary goal is to turn complex harness designs and engineering specifications into consistent, repeatable assembly processes that can scale across thousands of robots.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain production documentation including harness routing guides, tie-off specifications, assembly instructions, and test procedures

  • Define, implement, and enforce harness routing standards, tie-off locations, and termination requirements on every robot coming off the line

  • Own the process controls and inspection criteria that ensure every harness is assembled, routed, and secured to spec — every time

  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and process engineering teams to validate harness fit, routing paths, and mechanical clearances on the production floor

  • Work closely with supply chain and contract manufacturers to qualify suppliers, improve yield, reduce cost, and scale production

  • Support prototype builds, first article inspections, and manufacturing line bring-up through hands-on involvement

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for harness-related defects found during assembly, integration, or field operation

  • Drive DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFS (Design for Serviceability) improvements across the harness portfolio

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent

  • Hands-on experience with crimping tools, soldering, continuity and hi-pot testing, and assembly process validation

  • Proven ability to create accurate, production-ready documentation and release through formal ECO/change control processes

  • Experience working with contract manufacturers or production teams to scale harness builds and resolve process issues

  • Passion for building wiring systems that are robust, repeatable, and ready for high-volume manufacturing

  • Preferred: IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification, experience in robotics, automotive, or industrial wiring environments
