Step into Your New Role 

Kleinfelder’s Rancho Cordova (Sacramento) office is seeking a skilled Senior Geological Engineer with 10+ years' experience related to geological engineering, geotechnical engineering or geology, soil logging and testing, foundation design, geotechnical type analysis, technical report preparation, and/or construction testing and observation.  This position is a hybrid schedule and requires travel.


The ideal candidate must have previous experience working on one or more of the following types of disciplines: geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, geology, or civil engineering.  However, we are open to providing training for the right candidate.


Ideal candidates will possess strong communication and writing skills and technical background in geologic/engineering projects. Experience in the following areas is desired: 

  • Rock mechanics
  • Slope stability analysis including rock slope stability and kinematic analysis
  • Rockfall hazard assessments
  • Rock bolting and retaining walls
  • Deep and shallow foundations including drilled shafts and providing support (including on site) during foundation construction and installation
  • Instrumentation
  • Dams
  • Tunnel characterization
  • Planning, implementing, and managing geotechnical exploration and drilling programs including rock coring and assigning laboratory testing
  • Supervising field observation, testing, and performing site visits
  • Supporting project managers in budget management, client updates, and general project management tasks
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to clients and technical review boards
  • Be able to proactively troubleshoot and problem-solve with practical, client-focused solutions
  • Have experience leading teams and professionally develop staff at all levels
  • Be able to organize priorities and multi-task effectively
  • Possess a thirst to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment 
  • Rope work (ideally rope certified, i.e., SPRAT certification)

Requirements

  • BS degree in geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or geology (MS preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the state of California (ideally also a Professional Geologist (PG) and Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG))
  • 10+ years of related experience in consulting engineering firm or related service business and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations required
  • Exceptional attention to detail and writing skills are required for this task
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Physical ability to be in the field, carry equipment, perform testing and sampling for multiple hours or multiple days in a row
  • Travel within the state of California (travel outside of California is a plus but not required)
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Rocscience, GeoStudio, and Ensoft software

Benefits: Kleinfelder, and its’ subsidiaries and affiliates, offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays.  The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law.  Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary Range: $102,256 - $142,750.
