About the Role
You will own and build the customer-facing layer of our platform: a portfolio of data intelligence products for hospitals, as well as the shared application framework beneath them.
As the senior technical lead for this area, you will operate with high agency—designing how data is queried, cached, and visualized, building API layers over platform services, and working directly with domain experts to translate complex methodology into intuitive, high-impact products.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Product Ownership: Architect, build, and maintain data intelligence applications from database query contracts down to interactive UI components.
Framework & API Layer: Build and own the shared application API layer, composing underlying platform services and published data models into stable contracts.
Data-Access & Performance Strategy: Design robust caching, materialization, pagination, and streaming patterns to serve complex analytics from cloud data warehouses with low latency and optimized compute cost.
Advanced Data Visualization: Build interactive, non-standard visualization interfaces (e.g., hospital performance benchmarking and peer comparison views) and establish reusable patterns for the broader portfolio.
AI-Mediated Interfaces: Implement natural language and LLM-driven application surfaces—including retrieval workflows, tool integration, structured outputs, streaming, and evaluation of latency and cost.
Technical Leadership: Shape application architecture, set engineering standards, drive testing discipline, and mentor joining engineers.
Qualifications
Core Requirements (Must-Haves)
Full-Stack TypeScript: Deep production experience across both client (React / Next.js) and server (Node.js using Fastify, Express, or NestJS).
Advanced Data Visualization: Hands-on experience building custom, interactive visualizations (working with scales, layouts, coordinate systems directly using D3.js alongside Visx, ECharts, or Vega-Lite) and choosing appropriate render targets (SVG, Canvas, WebGL).
Analytical SQL & Warehouse Caching: Strong analytical SQL skills (window functions, CTEs, multi-level aggregations) and practical experience designing materialization/caching strategies over columnar cloud warehouses.
Client-Side State & Data Management: Expertise with client-side caching, request coalescing, streaming, and table virtualization (e.g., TanStack Query, SWR).
Architecture & Abstraction: Proven track record of building reusable abstractions—such as shared API layers, component libraries, or design systems—consumed by other engineers.
Nice-to-Haves (What Will Make You Stand Out)
LLM & AI Application Engineering: Practical experience integrating LLMs into production workflows (retrieval/RAG, tool calls, streaming, and evaluation metrics).
Multi-Tenant Security: Experience implementing robust, enterprise-grade authorization models where strict data segregation and confidentiality are paramount.
Production Observability & AWS: Familiarity with running microservices on AWS, with an emphasis on telemetry, logging, CI/CD, and performance monitoring.
Your Profile
Degree: Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related technical field.
Experience: 5+ years in full-stack software engineering building data-dense web applications, custom interactive visualizations, and customer-facing products; including a sustained period within one organization seeing a product through build → launch → iteration.
Domain Knowledge: Healthcare or benchmarking domain experience is a plus (basic understanding of healthcare KPIs, quality metrics, or benchmarking concepts; familiarity with hospital decision-making, performance reporting, or medical data workflows is especially valuable).
Mindset: Strong product-focused and UX-driven mindset, with a proven ability to translate complex analytical data models and methodology into intuitive, high-performance visual interfaces.
Languages: Fluent in English, German is a plus.
Working Style: Highly structured, user-empathetic, and motivated to collaborate closely with methodology experts, consultants, and cross-functional engineers in an international environment.
