Kia ora!
We're seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer for a 6-month contract (with likely extension) to join DNA, a leading New Zealand design and digital consultancy.
At DNA, our multidisciplinary teams lead challenging projects from innovative local solutions for New Zealand businesses and government to large-scale international platforms. For this contract, you'll work on a sophisticated LegalTech platform — a cloud-native system that's transforming how legal services are delivered internationally.
This is a hands-on role where you'll implement and evolve frontend applications, working alongside our team of developers and designers who value collaboration and technical excellence. You'll work across the frontend application stack, ensuring well-architected, performant, and accessible solutions for users.
About the platform
The platform is a cloud-native system built on Azure, featuring:
- Nuxt.js (Vue 3 with Composition API) frontend architecture
- Vite and Webpack for build and bundling pipelines
- Tailored design system with Storybook for component-driven development
- RESTful API integration with backend NestJS microservices
- Multi-environment CI/CD pipelines across development, test, UAT, and production
- Advanced security and compliance for LegalTech industry requirements
Required skills and experience:
We value practical experience and problem-solving ability over perfect technical matches. Ideally, you’ll have experience with most of the following:
- 4–6 years of frontend development experience, with strong proficiency in HTML standards, CSS (Sass), and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Building and maintaining applications with modern JavaScript frameworks, with Nuxt.js (Vue) as the primary stack
- Collaborating with designers to deliver pixel-perfect, accessible, and performant user interfaces
- Integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
- Using and optimising build tools (Vite, Webpack) and package managers (pnpm, npm, yarn) for efficient project delivery
- Applying OWASP best practices and front-end security standards (CSP, HSTS, CSRF protection, XSS prevention)
- Participating in CI/CD processes, ensuring automated testing and deployments are smooth and reliable
- Working with Storybook and design systems to support component-driven development
- Operating and troubleshooting development and test environments, and providing support to production operations
- Practical experience with Git workflows in collaborative development settings
- Ability to manage multiple projects, balance priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes
Bonus skills and experience:
- Familiarity with frontend performance optimisation and accessibility standards
- Experience with testing frameworks for frontend applications (e.g., Vitest, Cypress, Playwright, Jest)
- Experience working in LegalTech or regulated environments
What we provide:
- Collaboration with talented developers and designers working on meaningful projects
- Flexible working arrangements that respect work-life balance
- An open, creative environment where you can expand your skills
- Opportunity to work on projects that make a real difference across New Zealand and internationally
Contract details:
- Duration: 6-month initial contract with strong likelihood of extension based on project needs and performance
- Location: Ideally Auckland-based for hybrid studio working, though remote from within NZ possible
- Rate: Competitive daily/hourly rate negotiable based on experience and expertise
- Start date: Immediate availability preferred

You will need to provide your CV, a portfolio of frontend work (websites, applications, or design systems) and links to redacted code samples or GitHub repos.
As part of your cover letter, let us know if there's anything we can do to make this interview process comfortable for you.
