Why This Role Matters

 

The Washington Post’s FP&A department is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst with expertise in financial modeling, planning, and analysis. This role requires advanced Excel skills but also a sense of creativity and curiosity in the evolving operation of a modern media organization. The position will focus on supporting the tracking and analysis of our consolidated headcount expenses, helping leaders make financially informed decisions around hiring and organizational decisions.

The desired candidate will be self-sufficient and self-directed in managing their core FP&A responsibilities, connect details to the big picture, and communicate timely business insights to inform management decision-making. This will be a highly visible role that supports the heart of The Post’s mission and ensures we manage payroll expenses effectively to achieve our larger organizational financial goals.

How You'll Support The Mission

  • Support and maintain the administration and management of headcount and fringe expense forecasts in our workforce planning platform, Planful.
  • Actualize monthly data in Planful and ensure alignment to financial accounting.
  • Update and the annual operating plan, quarterly forecast, and long-range plan for headcount and fringe expenses across the organization, with input from, and collaboration with, the other FP&A team members.
  • Prepare headcount tracking reports that assist with the effective management of headcount expenses across departments, including annualized compensation tracking vs. budget, hire and term trending, bonus reconciliations, etc.
  • Serve as the primary FP&A headcount consolidation resource, helping to ensure data is accurate, aligned with business initiatives, and calculated correctly based on employee parameters.
  • Provide regular ad-hoc financial analysis to finance leaders, business partners, and cross-functional teams to support strategic planning and operational decisions.
  • Proactively identify and highlight opportunities for financial process and reporting improvements by partnering with other members of the finance team.
  • Partner with HR compensation and recruiting teams to align position management efforts and ensure consistency across reporting.

The Skills and Experience You Bring

  • 3+ years of financial planning, modeling, and analysis experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field
  • High proficiency in utilizing MS Excel; experience with Planful or other cloud-based planning platforms strongly preferred (Anaplan, Adaptive, etc.)
  • Comfortable with large volumes of complex data and presenting findings to senior management
  • Proven presentation and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of management

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:

$85,100 - $127,700 Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
