Job Description:

Financial Accountant (2iC to Finance Director)
Role Overview
We are seeking a technically rigorous, Financial Accountant to take the lead on our internal control environment and statutory reporting. This role is a critical hire, serving as the Second-in-Command (2iC) to the Finance Director. It is designed for a high-performer transitioning from a Top 10 audit firm who wants to move beyond "testing" and start "building" a world-class finance function within a global context.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Balance Sheet Integrity
  • Balance Sheet Ownership: Take full responsibility for UK-owned balance sheet items, including Cash, Debtors and Capitalisation ensuring absolute accuracy and reconciliation.
  • Internal Control Ownership: Document, implement, and monitor robust financial processes to ensure the business remains scalable and secure.
  • Audit & Statutory Management: Lead the relationship with external auditors, managing the end-to-end audit cycle and ensuring all statutory schedules meet high technical standards.
Tax & Compliance
  • Tax Liaison: Act as the primary UK point of contact for tax matters. You will take the lead on managing the R&D tax credit process, coordinating with external advisors to maximize claims while ensuring compliance.
  • Technical Expert: Serve as the internal subject matter expert on IFRS/UK GAAP, ensuring the business stays ahead of evolving accounting standards.
Global Collaboration & Leadership
  • International Liaison: Work closely with international finance colleagues in Sydney and California to align global reporting, manage intercompany flows, and share best practices.
  • Deputising for the FD: Act as the formal 2iC to the Finance Director, providing high-level cover in their absence and assisting with strategic decision-making.
  • Risk & Governance: Proactively identify financial and operational risks, designing the "first line of defense" workflows to protect the business.

Job Qualifications:

Skills & Qualifications
  • Chartered Status: Fully qualified (ACA / ACCA or equivalent) with a strong academic background.
  • Audit Pedigree: Significant experience within a Top 10 accounting firm (or equivalent high-standard audit environment).
  • Technical Rigor: A "quality-first" mindset with the ability to handle complex documentation and maintain accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Commercial Mindset: The ability to translate audit principles into a fast-paced setting and the confidence to step into a leadership role when the FD is away.
  • Global Communication: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence non-financial stakeholders and collaborate effectively across different time zones.
  • Analytical Mindset: Advanced Excel skills and the ability to interrogate data; experience with modern ERP systems is highly advantageous
