Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Export Compliance Specialist based in our Sales Office, Anyang, to manage export control and economic sanctions compliance for our South Korea operations.  This role ensures the company’s cross-border transfers of goods, software, and technology comply with Korean export control laws and applicable sanctions and other export control regimes (e.g., US and EU) while supporting the broader global trade compliance program.

Key Responsibilities

Export Controls

  • Classify goods, software, and technology under Korea’s Strategic Items Export/Import Notice
  • Assess export license requirements under the Foreign Trade Act and coordinate license applications with MOTIR and relevant licensing agencies (e.g., KOSTI) and defense-specific authorities as applicable
  • Evaluate transactions for catch-all controls, end-use, and end-user red flags
  • Support classification and licensing determinations for re-exports and deemed exports (technology transfers to foreign nationals)

Sanctions Compliance

  • Screen counterparties, business partners, and transactions against government restricted parties lists
  • Manage escalation, investigation, and resolution of screening hits and potential matches
  • Maintain sanctions screening tools and watchlist update processes

Cross-Functional and Program Management

  • Prepare and maintain export/sanctions compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Deliver training to sales, engineering, logistics, and procurement teams on export control and sanctions requirements
  • Track regulatory developments in Korean and international export control/sanctions law and assess business impact
  • Support responses to government inquiries, audits, investigations, and voluntary disclosures
  • Partner with Global Trade Compliance, legal and regional teams on cross-border deals, and technology transfers
  • Maintain recordkeeping in accordance with statutory retention requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Law, Political Science, Business, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in export controls and/or sanctions compliance, ideally in a multinational company, law firm, consultancy, or government/regulatory body
