Job Description Summary:

The Senior Enterprise Engagement Manager owns delivery of assigned mainframe modernization engagements end to end — from assessment and delivery planning through migration, cutover, stabilization and handover — in environments where an unplanned outage is not an acceptable outcome. This role reports to the Director, Technical Project Management within Enterprise Services.
This is a senior individual contributor role on Rocket's Technical Career Path. You will run your engagements with a high degree of independence under limited to general supervision, exercising the judgement that keeps scope, schedule, cost, quality and risk under control, and escalating early — with a recommendation — when a decision needs the Director or an executive sponsor. The problems you take on are complex but generally well framed: they call for disciplined analysis across multiple systems, contracts and stakeholders rather than invention from a blank sheet.
You will also help raise the standard of the practice. That means coaching and reviewing the work of less experienced project managers on shared engagements, and contributing the templates, checklists and lessons learned that the Director is institutionalizing across Enterprise Services. The role has no direct reports — influence here comes from credibility with customers, delivery teams and peers.
Success looks like engagements that land on scope, schedule and margin; customers who treat you as a trusted delivery lead rather than a status reporter; and a project management practice that is measurably more repeatable because of what you contributed back to it.

Own assigned engagements end to end

• Plan, organize and execute mainframe modernization software delivery and implementation engagements for assigned customers, from initiation through closeout, with a high degree of autonomy.
• Hold accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality and risk objectives on your engagements, which may span multiple concurrent workstreams, for example:
• Assessment, discovery and delivery planning
• Migration, re-platforming or re-hosting execution
• Integration with surrounding systems and hybrid cloud targets
• Testing, cutover and rollback readiness
• Post-go-live stabilization, handover and customer adoption
• Apply advanced project management and technical principles to delivery problems that are complex but mostly defined, weighing system, contractual and stakeholder considerations before committing to a course of action.
• Set and continually manage delivery expectations with project team members, customer stakeholders and external partners.
• Demonstrate a working understanding of software and hardware implementation activities — deployment, integration and customer adoption — sufficient to challenge plans, estimates and readiness claims credibly.

Control schedule, cost, change and risk

• Develop, maintain and actively manage detailed project schedules, resource forecasts and cost performance throughout the engagement lifecycle.

• Run change control: assess impact, guide customers and internal teams through the decision, and ensure changes are clearly documented, approved and communicated.

• Maintain risk and issue registers with named owners, mitigations and follow-through, giving early visibility of anything that threatens a committed date or cost position.

• Maintain requirement compliance matrices and governance artifacts so contractual obligations and delivery commitments are tracked and evidenced — particularly in regulated environments where change control and rollback planning are contractual.

Communicate, report and escalate

• Facilitate regular project status meetings with customers, communicating progress, risks, dependencies and next steps in terms both technical and business stakeholders can act on.
• Serve as the day-to-day point of accountability for your engagements, identifying risks and dependencies early and leading resolution.
• Produce delivery-ready reporting, issue logs, action item registers, requirements documentation and customer presentations.
• Support executive-level steering meetings led by the Director or an executive sponsor, supplying the delivery narrative, data and options those forums need.
• Contribute to incident and problem management on your engagements, ensuring clear communication and root cause follow-up.

Strengthen the delivery practice

• Provide guidance, coaching and review of work produced by less experienced project managers on shared engagements.
• Contribute to the development, improvement and standardization of project management processes, tools, templates and best practices across Enterprise Services.
• Lead or contribute to project postmortems and implementation reviews, converting lessons learned into changes other delivery teams can reuse.
• Work cross-functionally with service delivery, Finance, Legal and GTM counterparts on the commercial and contractual mechanics of your engagements.

QualificationsRequired

• 8+ years of relevant experience delivering technology projects, including vendor-side or consulting delivery to external customers.
• Demonstrated ownership of engagements end to end — initiation through closeout — with personal accountability for scope, schedule, cost and quality.
• Experience delivering software implementation or systems integration work in complex, production-critical customer environments.
• Experience delivering under both Fixed Price and Time & Materials commercial models, and understanding of the delivery discipline each requires.
• Strong stakeholder facilitation, written reporting and customer communication skills.
• Ability to work independently under limited to general supervision, exercising judgement on complex delivery problems and escalating with a recommendation rather than a question.
• University degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred

• PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent certification, or actively working toward certification.
• Direct experience with mainframe modernization — IBM Z or IBM Power environments, migration or re-platforming programs, or hybrid cloud integration.
• Delivery experience in regulated industries where auditability, change control and rollback planning are contractual requirements.
• Experience coaching or mentoring project managers, or reviewing their delivery artifacts.
• Experience contributing to delivery methodology, templates or PMO tooling — improving the practice, not only working within it.

Annual salary range for this position is between $120,500.00 - $162,675.00 gross before taxes.
