Introducing Senior Engineering Manager - Media at Trainline

We’re searching for a Senior Engineering Manager within the New Business pillar, leading our Media teams across Ads, Perks, and Sponsored Search. This role sits at the heart of our non-fee revenue strategy with a mission to optimise and grow revenue in ways that enhance - not compromise - the user experience. Our ambition is to ensure media placements feel native, contextually relevant, and thoughtfully targeted, delivering value to both customers and partners. We operate in highly cross-functional squads across Engineering, Product, DSA, Design, and Commercial where collaboration and experimentation are central to how we build. We’re looking for a leader who can drive technical excellence, empower teams, and balance commercial impact with customer-first thinking.

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Trainline, you will... 🚄

  • Lead multiple teams and their Engineering Managers, supporting them in career development through coaching and performance management

  • Own end-to-end delivery for your teams, ensuring projects are planned, executed, and delivered in a timely and high-quality manner

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science and business stakeholders to align technical delivery to business outcomes. Use domain expertise to guide teams toward high-impact opportunities.

  • Support technical direction and architecture without being deeply hands-on with code. Drive alignment in cross-team dependencies and ensure clarity on technical prioritisation, system interactions, and data flows between systems.

  • Champion engineering best practices across teams, promoting quality and fostering a culture of technical innovation

  • Drive operational excellence, ensuring that all teams under your leadership have robust monitoring, alerting, and incident management processes

We’d love to hear from you if you... 🔎

  • Have proven experience leading engineering teams and successfully delivering complex, multi-team initiatives

  • Have a strong record of developing people, building high-performing engineering teams, and growing future leaders

  • Can inspire trust and autonomy at all levels, building a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture

  • Thrive in a dynamic, collaborative, and highly cross-functional environment

  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and can influence at all levels of the organization

  • Lead confidently through ambiguity, creating clarity and momentum in complex or uncertain situations

  • Have a passion for driving technical and operational excellence
