Senior Engineer, Systems Applications – Power Solutions

Analog Devices is seeking a Senior Engineer, Systems Applications to join the Power Solutions group and support ADI’s transition from component-level power selling to system-level power solution development across strategic Industrial growth applications.

The Power Solutions group works across product lines, systems engineering, applications, marketing, field teams, and customers to define scalable power architectures, reference solutions, and platform strategies for high-growth domains including robotics, industrial automation, instrumentation, test, energy infrastructure, and other intelligent edge systems.

The successful candidate will work as a power systems applications engineer, translating customer application requirements into practical power trees, solution concepts, evaluation plans, reference design inputs, and product feedback. This role requires strong technical capability in power electronics and system-level design, the ability to engage effectively with customers and field teams, and the judgement to connect application requirements to ADI portfolio solutions, design-in activity, and customer success. The candidate will operate as an individual contributor, working under guidance from senior architects and technical leaders while taking ownership of defined applications, customer engagements, technical deliverables, and cross-functional execution tasks.

JOB SCOPE

  • Industry focus: Power architectures for Industrial growth applications including robotics, industrial automation, instrumentation, test and measurement, energy infrastructure, and intelligent edge systems.
  • Territory focus: Worldwide, with direct engagement across strategic customers, field teams, product lines, and ecosystem partners.
  • Functionality: Support, develop, and validate system-level power solutions that convert customer problems into ADI reference designs, application collateral, product feedback, and business opportunities.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and support practical system-level power architectures for priority industrial applications, including conversion, distribution, protection, isolation, sequencing, telemetry, thermal, EMI/EMC, reliability, and control considerations.
  • Translate customer requirements into power trees, solution concepts, trade-off analyses, evaluation plans, reference design inputs, and actionable product feedback.
  • Apply strong knowledge of switch-mode power conversion topologies, modelling, control techniques, magnetics, filter design, and EMI mitigation to define credible and optimised solutions.
  • Use simulation and modelling tools such as SPICE, Mathcad, MATLAB, or equivalent platforms to analyse power-stage behaviour, control-loop performance, transient response, thermal limits, and design trade-offs.
  • Perform hands-on lab work to bring up, debug, characterise, optimise, and validate power circuits, including data capture, waveform analysis, efficiency measurement, thermal assessment, EMI investigation, and design refinement.
  • Identify and resolve real-world implementation issues such as component parasitics, layout sensitivity, thermal constraints, start-up behaviour, stability, noise, EMI, protection response, and production variability.
  • Support architecture and application reviews for strategic opportunities, ensuring solutions are technically credible, practical, differentiated, manufacturable, supportable, and aligned with ADI portfolio direction.
  • Engage directly with customers and field teams to understand application requirements, support design decisions, resolve technical questions, and position ADI power solutions effectively.
  • Create reusable technical collateral including power trees, design guides, simulation examples, lab results, evaluation concepts, reference design inputs, training material, and customer-facing presentations.
  • Partner with product line management, systems engineering, applications, marketing, business development, sales, and field applications teams to identify requirements, solution gaps, roadmap inputs, and opportunities for improved customer support.
  • Capture lessons learned from customer engagements, lab evaluations, competitive activity, and design-in support, and feed those insights back into applications work, product planning, solution strategy, and field enablement.
  • Communicate technical findings, design trade-offs, measured results, and application impact clearly through documentation, technical reviews, workshops, and presentations.

CANDIDATE CREDENTIALS

  • BSEE required; MSEE, PhD, or equivalent advanced experience in power electronics, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience in power systems, power management ICs, power modules, industrial power applications, applications engineering, system engineering, or semiconductor solution development.
  • Strong technical understanding of power conversion, power distribution, protection, isolation, thermal trade-offs, transient response, EMI/EMC, reliability, safety considerations, and system-level design constraints.
  • Experience in one or more strategic growth domains such as robotics, industrial automation, instrumentation, test and measurement, energy infrastructure, data infrastructure, or automotive, is desirable where it demonstrates transferable applications or system design capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams, manage defined technical deliverables, and operate with the independence, judgement, and execution discipline expected of a Senior Engineer.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly and connect them to architecture decisions, product implications, and customer outcomes.
  • Excellent written communication, technical documentation, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Solution-focused mindset with the ability to connect customer requirements, technical trade-offs, portfolio capabilities, competitive dynamics, and practical solution recommendations.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and comfortable operating in customer-facing and cross-functional environments where technical clarity, follow-through, and practical problem solving are required.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, typically 10–20% depending on customer and internal business needs.
