Job Description:
Senior Engineer Software/Firmware Development
We are seeking a strong senior engineer with broad embedded systems experience to contribute to next-generation automotive connectivity and display solutions. This role spans embedded firmware, low-level driver development, developer tooling, and system integration for automotive-oriented products.
The position involves development across multiple software components, including embedded firmware running on ARM Cortex-class platforms, host-side configuration and tooling applications, and software integration across heterogeneous compute environments. The role includes work related to embedded security, standards-based automotive connectivity technologies, and interoperability-focused software development.
You will work closely with globally distributed engineering teams and technical leadership to implement high-quality software that meets functional, reliability, safety, and cybersecurity expectations for automotive deployments.
This role is well suited for engineers who enjoy broad technical ownership, hands-on product development, solving system-level problems, and collaborating across disciplines in a fast-moving environment while maintaining high standards for software quality and engineering rigor.
Strong communication skills, ownership, and collaborative execution are essential for success in this role, including regular coordination with remote technical leadership across time zones.
Responsibilities:
•Implement embedded firmware and software features for automotive connectivity and display products.
• Develop ROM-based firmware and low-level embedded software for ARM Cortex-class platforms.
• Develop and maintain software components including drivers, platform interfaces, configuration tools, and developer workflow integrations.
• Contribute to configuration-generation and initialization tooling used to support product bring-up and deployment workflows.
• Learn and apply standards based technical specifications relevant to assigned components.
• Develop standards-compliant software and driver components aligned with automotive interoperability, safety, and cybersecurity expectations.
• Participate in requirements development activities including technical analysis, decomposition, Jira story refinement, estimation, and definition-of-ready discussions.
• Collaborate with technical leadership and cross-functional teams to clarify specifications, identify implementation gaps, and drive features through implementation and validation.
• Work with pre-silicon and emulation environments to support firmware readiness prior to silicon availability.
• Design, execute, and document empirical software validation and integration testing in emulation and hardware environments.
• Support traceability between requirements, implementation, testing, and delivered software artifacts.
• Develop and debug embedded software using JTAG, GDB, emulation environments, and hardware evaluation platforms.
• Perform software bring-up, validation, issue investigation, and root-cause analysis using lab hardware and evaluation kits.
• Support software integration and evaluation on Linux-based automotive compute platforms.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, architecture reviews, and technical planning activities.
• Deliver reviewed, tested, maintainable, and well-documented software contributions integrated into shared repositories and CI/CD workflows.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including specifications, design notes, integration guides, user documentation, release notes, and engineering handoff materials.
• Collaborate effectively with distributed global teams across multiple time zones.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
• 8-10+ years of professional experience in embedded software and firmware development.
Core Technical Skills:
• Strong programming skills in C and C++.
• Working knowledge of Python for scripting, tooling, automation, or test development.
• Strong understanding of embedded systems fundamentals including memory architecture, interrupts, peripherals, boot flows, hardware/software interaction, and low-level debugging.
• Experience developing embedded firmware for ARM Cortex-class embedded processors.
• Familiarity with secure software development practices and cryptographic concepts.
• Experience developing low-level drivers, platform software, or board-support software.
• Experience debugging embedded systems using JTAG, GDB, emulation platforms, and lab hardware.
• Experience working in Linux development environments.
• Experience with hardware/software integration workflows using evaluation boards and emulation environments.
Development Practices:
• Experience participating in Scrum/Agile software development workflows including backlog refinement, story grooming, sprint planning, and estimation.
• Ability to interpret and implement software requirements from technical specifications and industry standards.
• Strong understanding of software quality practices including code reviews, static analysis, unit testing, integration testing, and maintainable software design.
Professional Skills:
• Excellent analytical, debugging, communication, and documentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success working within collaborative, distributed engineering teams.
• Comfortable collaborating with globally distributed engineering teams across shared time-zone overlap windows.
• Self-driven and comfortable operating with ownership and accountability in a fast-moving engineering environment.
Preferred Experience:
Candidates are encouraged to highlight experience in any of the following areas:
• Automotive software development practices and standards including ISO 26262 and ISO 21434.
• MISRA-compliant software development and coding standards.
• Automotive software architectures and ecosystems including AUTOSAR Classic or AUTOSAR Adaptive.
• Automotive connectivity, display, camera, ADAS, or high-speed interface technologies.
• Standards-based automotive networking and interoperability technologies.
• Embedded security libraries, secure communication technologies, or cryptographic implementations.
• RISC-V architectures and software ecosystems.
• Linux-based automotive compute platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson/DriveOS, Qualcomm Ride platforms, or QNX-based systems.
• CI/CD workflows and automated validation infrastructure.
