We develop software that helps people get the right medical care, at the right time, at the right price.
The Role

Machinify is a leading healthcare intelligence company with expertise across the payment continuum, delivering unmatched value, transparency, and efficiency to health plan clients across the country. Deployed by over 85 health plans, including many of the top 20, and representing more than 270 million lives, Machinify brings together a fully configurable and content-rich, AI-powered platform along with best-in-class expertise. We’re constantly reimagining what’s possible in our industry, creating disruptively simple, powerfully clear ways to maximize financial outcomes and drive down healthcare costs.

We’re seeking a skilled Technical Engineer Manager to join our team!

Machinify is seeking an inspiring and technically deep Engineering Manager to lead our Subrogation product team. This is a newly formed team scaling to 5–6 engineers over the next year, requiring a hands-on technical leader to establish a foundation of strong engineering principles from the outset. You'll lead a team of high-caliber talent with an eye for greenfield projects and building products 0-1. You bring a steady track record of recruiting and hiring top-tier engineering talent, with the instincts and rigor to assess for both technical depth and long-term fit. You see hiring as a core leadership responsibility, not a task to delegate, and you're energized by the opportunity to shape team culture, calibrate the bar, and partner closely with recruiting to bring in engineers who will define what this team becomes.

Our team builds end-to-end AI system services that automate and drive efficiency across healthcare operations. We leverage the latest advances in AI including data mining, generative AI, and agentic systems to build the next generation of healthcare claims and payment automation products. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of healthcare operations by delivering solutions that combine deep technical expertise, customer empathy, and a commitment to transforming complex workflows at scale.

The ideal candidate brings a strong track record across distributed systems, tech stack modernization, and backend services development, paired with proven technical and people leadership. You're energized by architecting performant platforms and web applications that deliver measurable customer impact. You push your team to adopt tools and practices that accelerate velocity—championing test automation, CI/CD maturity, and AI-assisted development workflows. You'll join an engineering organization of high-performing software and data engineers who thrive at the cutting edge of applied AI.

Our teams partner cross-functionally to influence product direction, work directly with customers, and own systems positively impacting millions of lives—where your technical decisions truly matter!

Does this sound like the right opportunity to explore?... Lets connect!

What You’ll Do

  • This is a hands-on role:  You will be deeply involved in architectural design, part-time on coding and code reviews
  • Lead the development and production releases of robust, observable and intuitive solutions and workflows for healthcare subrogation product lines
  • Manage a small and nimble team of (5-6) developers
  • Develop plans and track production features for on-time quality releases
  • Understand with data what slows your team down, and develop phased plans to reduce pain points and increase velocity
  • Own projects aligned with our product development strategy
  • Influence the direction of the underlying platform to ensure it is extensible, scalable, and secure
  • Measure impact through metrics
  • Collaborate with team and external stakeholders such as Product Managers, Backend and Frontend Engineers, ML, UX team, & our customers

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of combined hands-on technical leadership and engineering management experience
  • 8+ years of production application development, backend services experience, and developing API's/micro-services at scale
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Java, Scala, or Rust)
  • Experience hiring, growing careers and managing performance for engineering teams and leads
  • Strong stakeholder fluency. You can sit with non-technical domain experts (clinicians, coders, ops leads, product), extract what they actually mean, translate it into a technical problem, and translate technical tradeoffs back into terms they can decide on.
  • Strong orientation towards building and utilizing lightweight mechanisms, including running retrospectives, operations reviews, and backlog scrubs
  • Fluency with Claude Code / Codex as a power user — able to plan, execute, and debug non-trivial engineering tasks with these tools, including reading their source when needed.
  • Comfortable leading and defining ambiguous problems
  • Experience presenting technical results to executive or external (customer / regulator) audiences.
  • BS or MS in Computer science (or equivalent experience)
