- Perform complete link budget calculations (FSPL, fade margin, cable losses, antenna gain, polarization losses, RF losses, etc.)
- Evaluate and shortlist COTS radios, antennas, RF cables, connectors, filters and amplifiers.
- Optimize RF architecture, component placement, antenna location and RF interconnects considering airframe effects, multipath, shadowing, and BVLOS constraints
- Conduct RF characterization, optimization and performance validation through field testing and lab measurements
- Analyze RSSI, SNR, noise floor, interference sources, and spectrum occupancy, link stability and RF performance data to identify and resolve RF degradation in existing UAV platforms.
- Define RF qualification test plans (range testing, EMI/EMC considerations, environmental validation)
- Troubleshoot and optimize RF communication issues at system
- Design and optimize RF networks/architectures for new UAV platforms using COTS RF components, considering system requirements, frequency bands, link budget, interfaces, power, RF losses and physical constraints.
- Perform RF performance assessment and optimization of existing UAV platforms and recommend design, component, antenna, placement and interconnect improvements based on measured performance
- RF architecture and performance optimization for UAVs.
- Selection and integration of COTS RF components for UAV RF networks.
- Strong understanding of RF systems, electromagnetics, RF propagation, link budgets, antenna fundamentals and RF network design
- Experience with wireless communication systems, RF interfaces and communication protocols
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzer, VNA, signal generator, power meter, and RF measurement tools.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
- Problem solving skills, analytical mindset, attention to detail
- Ability to self-manage
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering, or a related field
- 8–10 years of experience in RF systems, RF communication, wireless systems, or RF engineering
- Experience with RF architecture and performance optimization for UAVs
- Experience selecting and integrating COTS RF components for UAV RF networks
- Strong understanding of RF systems, electromagnetics, RF propagation, link budgets, antenna fundamentals, and RF network design
